Emmett John: No Aspergers kids here

Can you tell the difference between the diapers in the picture below? Emmett John can. He will only wear the “Cookie Monster” diapers on the right. He goes so far as to go through all the diapers and make a nice neat pile of his beloved “Cookie Monster” ones. When the “Cookie Monster” ones are gone he moves to “Groove”. Once again, no Aspergers kids here.

My Son always looks for something particular on his diapers and refuses some and accepts others. I have yet to figure it out and often wish he was talking so that he could just tell me. Since we are so new to the ASD diagnosis I'm almost afraid to ask, but what do you mean by "…no Aspergers kids here." ??

My mother bought a Buzz Lightyear and Woody plush toy for my son, and another set for the little girl she takes care of.

My son left his toys at home when we went to visit, but I did not know that until it was time to go back home and I told him to get his Buzz and Woody.

He picked them up, looked at them, and said "no dad, these aren't mine." and put them down.

I said "are you sure? We aren't coming back so if you leave there here, they stay."

And he said "yeah, I'm sure, the eyes are different."

Sure enough, we get home and there are his toys. The eyes truly were slightly different, chances are no one else would have ever noticed but at 4 years old, my boy knew they weren't his.

Go figure, sometimes Autism can come in handy!
