The self injury continues

Gavin (even back on the anti-psychotics) continues to self injure. He slammed his wrist onto something last night while he was angry. I didn’t notice this till today. He’s pretty lucky he didn’t go any deeper.

My son w/autism used to be self-injurious also. This school yr has seen been the 1st time this behavior has stopped. Although he started at a young age, it was like one kick at the wall or hit to the head. I feel that it was attn seeking. Most bad behavior gets a parents' or teacher's attn, and he did get it. My son mimics all he sees and hears. It didn't help that he picked up many bad habits from another student from 3rd-5th grade. That student is now at another campus. My son started middle school and we have an excellent teacher whom started using ABA therapy in class. My son is no longer self-injurious! Yea!!

Is it possible that this is a sensory seeking behaviour that results in him being injured rather than an active attempt to hurt himself? As you said he's on anti psychotics, but the deep pressure he gets from slamming his wrist against something would be calming for his nervous system.

Lost and Tired

It's quite possible but it falls in line with all the other self injury. Scratching, biting and hitting himself. Perhaps Your right and there is more to it then meets the eye….
