Tribute to Autism **MUST SEE**

Something I never shared with all of you is that the Goo Goo Dolls are my all time favorite band. John Rzeznik is a fantastic singer and musician. So the other day I stumbled upon this and I wanted to share. I think this is absolutely amazing.

I have no idea why it only has 500 views but I hope to change that. I think this is an amazing tribute to Autism….. The words are incredible…..

Check it out and let me know what you think. I get goose bumps……

                                                                        “I’m Still Here”

I am a question to the world,
Not an answer to be heard.
All a moment that’s held in your arms.
And what do you think you’d ever say?
I won’t listen anyway…
You don’t know me,
And I’ll never be what you want me to be.

And what do you think you’d understand?
I’m a boy, no, I’m a man..
You can take me and throw me away.
And how can you learn what’s never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own.
They don’t know me ’cause I’m not here.

And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don’t feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change,
They’re the ones that stay the same.
The don’t know me,
‘Cause I’m not here.

And you see the things they never see
All you wanted, I could be
Now you know me, and I’m not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man?
They can’t break me
As long as I know who I am

And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don’t feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change,
They’re the ones that stay the same.
They can’t see me,
But I’m still here.

They can’t tell me who to be,
‘Cause I’m not what they see.
And the world is still sleepin’,
While I keep on dreamin’ for me.
And their words are just whispers
And lies that I’ll never believe.

And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don’t feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can they say I never change
They’re the ones that stay the same.
I’m the one now,
‘Cause I’m still here.

I’m the one,
‘Cause I’m still here.
I’m still here.
I’m still here.
I’m still here.

This is actually written about one of the band members close friends child, who has Autism. Yes, it was written for a movie soundtrack but the child with Autism was the inspiration for the lyrics.

Wow, powerful! For sure sharing… bet the views start racking up by passing it along… (PS Rzeznik rules – I have a friend who is their/his HUGEST fan and she has gotten to meet the band lots of times and even eat dinner with JR – said JUST as nice as you would expect)

Beautiful song that says it all! I am a mother of 3 grown boys all on the autism spectrum 2 with aspergers and 1 with pdd and it has been a long challenging road but so worth all the rewards. I also work with kids who are cognitivly impaired and have autism and am so very blessed to have a job i love with all my special kids. Thank you so much for sharing!

My 10 year old Grandson is also autistic, its been along 10 years but i wouldnt change him if i could. He is very special, and is now on a medication that lets him be almost a regular boy,he functions, but also he does not eat because of meds. He had to be taken out of school and taught at home because the school and teachers do not understand autism.Because of the "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND" program they could not put him in special classes. He was picked on and tormented till he would snap on them and then they would punish him for it. Not right but its true. I wish you all the help you can get and then some My heart and prayers are with you.

Mitchell's Gwandma

As a grandma to an autistic child, I want to thank you for this beautiful post. I don't know if I want to thank you for bringing me to tears, but maybe I need to be there every now and then. My Mitchell called me "gwandma" this summer for the first time. He is 7 years old and I haven't cried like this since then. I know the daily struggles that not only he has, but his parents and his brother as well. All that said, there is no more beautiful child than him and his love is so forgiviing and forthcoming. Thank you again.

Nicole

I waited 5 years for my daughter to call me mommy (it is nanni but i don't care, it's close enough for me) so I know how you feel. It is good to cry sometimes 🙂
