Coping with the stress of special needs parenting

As a special needs parent to 3 boys on the #Autism spectrum,  it’s no secret that life is challenging. On most days I feel completely overwhelmed by all my responsibility.  I suspect that many of you out there have experienced similar feelings as well.

When you find yourself completely overwhelmed what do you do?

Typically,  when I find myself overwhelmed I turn to my blog and write about it. I find that writing helps me to put things into perspective and that helps me to move forward.

What do you do to help cope with the stress of special needs parenting?

For me, and I hate to admit it, but I tend to blank out and walk away. When it gets to be too much, I have to just walk away from it. There are days when I feel like I'm living in a bubble cause so much happens and you go from one instance to another and it just gets too overwhelming.  My daughter has violent outburst and I will not give into those nor will I reciprocate with violence. When she has them, I don't know what else to do then try to talk her through them or walk away. Walking away is sometimes my only option.

@whiterose You are not alone here. I do understand what you're saying and I can relate. I think what makes this so exhausting is that we don't yell or react with violence. That's not always the easiest thing in the world to do. It's really nice to have you here. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

@blanche While I'm not much of a drinker, I do find that it sounds good at times 🙂
