Share your favorite YouTube tribute to #Autism

So many times I have been asked what it feels like to find out your child has autism. I never really have the words but this is a song that really helped me after Emmett and Elliott were both diagnosed. I think it says more than I could.

No that I’ve shown you mine, why not show me yours 😉

You can simply find your favorite video on YouTube that is autism related or makes you think about your kids and embed it in a comment below. Perhaps there is a song on YouTube that you just find inspiring and would like to share. I think this could be a really cool thing to do. This, is my song, for my daughter. Serenity by Godsmack.

I feel these lyrics sums up my thoughts and feelings about my daughter.

Where do we go when we just don't know
And how do we re-light the flame when it's cold
Why do we dream when our thoughts mean nothing
And when will we learn to control

Tens of thousands of families have never met a Special Needs educator or seen a professional who could diagnose autism. Some live in societies where Special Needs is not a topic for open discussion. Thankfully, there are people willing to work tirelessly to improve life for special children. We must tell these caring people that they are appreciated and not alone. The purpose of this PSA is to promote that understanding.

Here are 150 of the many autism logos on the Internet. Each logo the signpost of another vocal family, group or organization in the autism community. Aside from the sheer number of them, I felt that dealing them out one-by-one would communicate that advocacy is advancing. I want people to keep the faith.

This PSA was initially used to support community outreach of the Hope Center For Exceptional Needs in Jeddah, KSA. 2011. video by michael Leventhal

This isn't a song, but it shows a kid with autism communicating using Rapid Prompting Method (RPM). I have personally used this method to teach two of my kids and it works. Please note that the boy in this video is pointing to letters independently with no one "assisting" him….NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH FACILITATED COMMUNICATION!! http://youtu.be/Wvn7kYJyOFM

There, I hope this time my link and comment will show up in one post!

I also wanted to get a dialogue going on tributes to autism. This is my personal favorite video on YouTube that is a dedicated tribute to autism and those impacted by it. Please listen and enjoy. I find it so inspiring and get goose bumps every time I watch it.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this song by a group called Analogue Transit. It's called Breathe and I listen to this every single day. It helps me to remember that things will someday get better. This is also included on the Acoustic For Autism CD.
