For all the headache and nightmarish behavior we see from Gavin,  I want to share this with you.  For the most part,  this past week since Gavin’s been home has been pretty good. 

There have been a few frustrating moments for him but not a single meltdown in over a week. 

That’s down from several a day.

It think there are a few things at work here.  For example,  I’m trying to spend more one on one time with Gavin,  even when I really don’t feel like it.  I’m tired all the time and even well behaved,  he is exhausting. 

We are working on rewarding his positive behavior once again.  That may seem like common sense and for most kids it is but Gavin exploits every reward system we have had in place. Having said that,  my friend Chloe has been providing us with unique insights and things to try.  So far they seem to be working. 

I’m actually enjoying the one on one time with him for the first time in a long time. 

Gavin is the kind of kid that needs to be working.  When he has something he has to do,  he can,  for the most part,  focus and finish.  So we have given him a bit more responsibility as of late. 

I have another post coming at some point tonight or tomorrow where I show you an example of some hands on,  real life situations I’m putting him in and letting him work his way through it.  He seems to really respond to this. I keep reminding him that good choices lead to good things.  That’s probably not the best thing to say to a kid that generalizes everything but for now, it’s close enough. 

My moto to Gavin right now is,  the choices we make effects the kind of life we live.

Pretty profound,  right?  I made that up,  all by myself.  😉 I don’t know how you officially coin a phrase,  but feel free to use it if it helps.  Just send $.25 in an envelope to the PO BOX in the left side bar.  😛
