Operation Hope: Update 09/17/2012

I wanted to update you on Operation Hope. For those unfamiliar with Operation Hope, here’s the cliff notes version.

We are in the process of trying to place our oldest son,  Gavin, into residential care.

There are a million reasons why this has to happen.  The most important reasons are that it’s Gavin’s only hope and ours as well.

The Lost and Tired family is coming apart at the seams. Gavin’s behaviors play a huge role in that. Gavin has been diagnosed with reactive attachment disorder (RAD) and this is quite serious.

Basically,  Gavin cannot form emotional bonds with people and has no conscience.

Long story short.. It’s not safe for him to be in our house.  He’s way,  way to volatile and is becoming more and more aggressive, both physically and sexually.

Operation Hope is the process of finding him the help that he desperately needs and well as providing relief to the rest of the family.

Nothing has changed much since my last update.  He has his good days and bad days. Today,  was a really bad day. 🙁

We will begin building our wraparound team very soon and filling out additional paperwork for funding residential treatment.

That’s about it for now.  I can’t keep my eyes open so goodnight all.  :-).

@lostandtired  @Carlyoung Marc is really good at convincing people that he is sincere about changing.  The staff in the safe bed commented today that he needs long term psychiatric care.  Our social worker was like "no duh! what do you think that the family is begging for?"

I understand completely Rob.  Marc is back in safe bed this week.  he was home for an hour before he started stealing, and verbally harassing his mother.  He was home for 24 hours before we made the decision to take him back there.  He will be there as few as four days.  We are waiting for a bed to open up in the residential facility right now.  I know what it means to have a child with no conscience, or remorse. no empathy.  People don't understand just how scary that is.  I could give examples of famous people who were like our kids, but that would be even scarier.  My thoughts are with you my friend.

@Carlyoung thank you. This is a unique situation that most will never understand. What's really hard for me is that Gavin can be really nice at times. He can do nice things for people and it almost always makes me question things. I wonder if maybe we were wrong about him in the first place or he's changed. It kills me inside…
