We are still struggling with sleep issues

Sleep issues are one of the more prolific symptoms that can present when someone’s on the Autism Spectrum.  It’s one of the more exhausting challenges as well.

Elliott and Emmett are both struggling with sleep issues.

Elliott wakes up in the middle of the night and can’t go back to sleep. Sometimes he’s not able to fall asleep either.

On the other hand, Mr. Emmett can’t seem to fall asleep in his own bed. He sneaks out of his bed after being tucked in and makes his way to our bed, where he proceeds to encase himself in our pillows and blankets.

We put him back in his bed after he’s asleep and most of the time he’ll stay there.

There are countless reasons why sleep can be an issue but unfortunately, we can’t seem to figure out what’s behind them for Emmett.  I think he’s associated having bad dreams with falling asleep in his own bed and is more comfortable falling asleep in ours.

On occasion, both boys will be found in our bed and that’s just what we found last night…

We’ve yet to find anything to really hope, including increasing the Melatonin dosage…

have you considered the possibility of sounds?

I’m occasionally kept awake from the high pitched “inaudible” hum of a phone charger.

I also for some time had a lot of trouble sleeping because of the seemingly deafening noises created by my own head(things like liquid behind the eardrum, muscles twitching, and blood flowing through blood vessels)
luckily I no longer notice these sounds so strongly, and it seems the liquid behind my eardrum is gone.

I would have never even thought that was possible… That’s definitely something to look into. Thank you for sharing.. ☺
