Many Autism parents struggle with feeding their child with Autism. The most common reason for these types of feeding issues are sensory related.
I face these same issues, especially with my youngest. Things like texture, color, smell, packaging and even different foods touching or sharing the same plate can be major issues.
Kids with these struggles are not being picking eaters. They will literally go hungry before eating a food that has shared a plate with another food. They will go hungry is whatever food is available is somehow offensive on a sensory level.
This can make simply getting these kids to eat anything. It’s frustrating for all involved and there’s not much that can be done to work around these things, other than focusing on the few things they are willing or able to eat.
