Bad news

I’ve been continuing to follow up in regards to Gavin’s NeuroPsych testing scheduled for tomorrow.

After a few attempts to connect with our case manager, I haven’t heard anything back. As a result, I called the Cleveland Clinic directly, checked on the status and I’m glad I did.

Insurance has denied Gavin’s claim three times this week already, the last being yesterday.

Unbeknownst to me, the appointment had been canceled. I’m glad I did my due diligence because otherwise I would have hauled Lizze and Gavin to the Cleveland Clinic at a Godawful hour, only to find that we no longer had an appointment.

The only reason I would have assumed anything in the morning is because I was told by the Cleveland Clinic eariler in the week that the appointment would stand until we knew for sure about the insurance issues. She said that I would get a call a head of time, notifying me of the cancelation.

I don’t know what’s going on with the coverage, aside from paperwork issues but I really hope this is nothing to do with the recent cuts to Medicaid. Gavin’s on disability and we’ve never had issues like this before and I’ve grateful for that.

At this point, I can’t even reschedule into the future while we get this all figured out. In the meantime, Gavin will continue to regress, with no clinical way to track things.

This testing would tell us how bad things have gotten and what, if anything we could do to help him. 🙁

Have to wade through all this insurance crap can be incredibly frustrating. I’ve had to become an expert (wasn’t my plan to become one, but that’s how things go) in a few areas regarding insurance – it can be mind-numbing, not intuitive, and seemingly designed to exhaust the insureds into submission. In your case, the immediacy of the medical needs only makes things more stressful. Best of luck tackling this situation.

You know Jimmy, that’s exactly how it feels. I just replied to Kim and said I was going to walk away from it for a few days. I’m way too stressed out over this and I need to put things down. I’ll pick up the fight next week.

Thanks Jimmy

That sucks, both that he can’t get the tests and that no one called you to tell you it was cancelled

Now that Gavin is almost 18 do you have to fill anything out with the state saying that you or Lizzie have power of attorney over him to make his medical decisions? Like anything official? When he turns 18 do you have to re-enroll him in healthcare?

Actually, we have to get permanent guardianship. That’s a court thing but something we need to get done and honestly should have started a long time ago.

Sorry to hear this. 😕 Hope everything is straightened out. On a side note, I’m still not getting notifications.
