I’m so fricking tired of these impossible decisions

I get so frustrated and overwhelmed because there are so many impossible decisions that need to be made on what feels like a daily basis. What are impossible decisions? Impossible decisions are decisions that must be made knowing that there are no good options to choose from. At the risk of sounding cliché, it’s damned if I do damned if I don’t…

Currently, we’re trying to figure out a solution to all the problems surrounding the boy’s education. I’m not going to go into those problems again right now, but if you’re in need of a refresher, you can look here.

I spent an hour tonight discussing options with the kid’s education specialist/psychologist tonight during our regularly scheduled Tuesday night therapy session.

The way I see it, we only have so many options. Over specifically, there are about three options. We can do nothing and continuing fighting what feels like a losing battle. We can change schools and try to find a better fit. We could also pull the kids and homeschool them.

No matter what we decide to do, we’ll end up trading one problem for another.

We have to figure out what problems we’re willing or able to take on, in exchange for quashing others. In this particular scenario, we make a choice that helps to reduce the daily stress the kids are under in their current educational situation, thereby reducing the overall tension in the house. Unfortunately, what we would have to do in order to make that a reality is take on an enormous amount of new responsibility and that will introduce a new kind of stress into our daily lives.

While doing nothing doesn’t seem like an option, doing anything at all is going to create problems we may or may not be able to deal with.

There is no good answer. After a lengthy discussion this evening, I’m just as overwhelmed as I was before. We brainstormed options, as well as the pros and cons of said options. It honestly feels like one way or another; we’re screwed no matter what we decide to do.

This is just one the impossible decisions I’m wrestling with currently. There are plenty more where this one came from. Each one is just as important as the other and equally as impossible.

Special Needs Parenting is NOT easy. Making a significant decision about your child’s education is difficult for any parent, regardless of their child’s developmental status. The thing about being a Special Needs parent is that there are a million additional things to worry about and a million different complications to deal with.

Raising kids with special needs is challenging enough on the best days. Impossible decisions only make life more challenging, frustrating and overwhelming.
