Emmett’s been in a lot of pain lately

Emmett’s been having a lot of back pain recently. He’s been to the doctor and it appeared to be muscular in nature so he was referred to physical therapy. The appointment was scheduled but we had a month or so to wait and it felt like forever. Yesterday, Emmett had his evaluation and they believe it’s muscular as well. He did great and has exercises to do each day. I’ll also now be taking him to PT every Friday morning at 7am through July. I’m not super excited about that but we do what we must and he definitely needs the help. Part of the problem is that Emmett has grown so rapidly recently. He went from this tiny kid who hadn’t grown forever to this giant teenager, seemingly overnight.…

We meet again Akron Children’s

My day is off to a great start. I slept through the night and woke up feeling energized. I bought donuts last night to surprise the kids this morning. I have a relatively busy morning in front of me but I know I totally got this. Elliott got off to school without a problem, although he insisted on wearing shorts again. That's a sensory thing and something I'll talk about another time because it's becoming a problem this time of year. At the moment, Emmett and I are in the waiting room at Akron Children's Hospital. He's got his PT evaluation in a few minutes and he's really excited. He loved PT when he was younger and he once again needs some extra help to navitage the world safely. ENHAN…

Why I’m taking my youngest back to physical therapy

We're bringing back an old family favorite this week in the form of physical therapy. Emmett will be making his return to PT on Wednesday. He goes for his evaluation on Wednesday and hopefully, he'll be approved for at least a few months. Emmett used to be very tiny and was in PT to help with strengthing and muscle tone. He was also in OT as well. He reached a point where he was doing well enough that he no longer qualified and insurance stopped paying.. Fast forward a few years and Emmett's grown quite a bit. He's constantly turning his right ankle, as well as sorta dragging his foot, which causes him to trip. Anyway, he's been on a wait list for PT for months now and it's finally…

Made a trip to Akron Children’s Hospital today

Haven't done one of these is forever. Elliott and Emmett both had well checks today at Akron Children's Hospital. This was basically playing a bit of catchup as a result of COVID. Elliott needed a physical for school this year and Emmett just needed a physical because it was time for him to have a physical. They did great and both boys needed vaccines. Emmett needed both HPV and flu, while Elliott just needed his flu shot. Emmett claimed that the HPV shot hurts worse than the flu shot. This was his second HPV dose, so he has experienced it before. I was calling bullshit on that claim so we put it to the test. The nurse didn't tell him which shot was which and Emmett was supposed to tell…

My kids were #vaccinated at @AkronChildrens Hospital today

One of the decisions I had to make recently was whether or not to get Elliott and Emmett vaccinated for COVID. That took about 3 seconds to figure out what the right thing to do was. Of course, the boys will get vaccinated ASAP. Do I have questions about the vaccines in regards to my kids? Sure I do and that's okay. There's nothing wrong with having questions about something like this. That being said, I seek out information from friends who are quite literally experts in the field. I don't think people should be criticized for having questions or concerns but as adults we have a responsibility get our information from expert sources and not social media or right wing media sources. We owe our kids better than that…

Round 3 of blood work for Gavin

It's been a long day but a pretty good one. I didn't write yesterday cause I was not really in a place where I felt like writing. I spent the time connecting with other parents instead and that was really cool. Yesterday, I had to take Gavin for another round of blood work, this time focusing on his liver. I hate doing this because it puts us in contact with other people but it was a necessary evil. Gavin's levels have been off and we have to keep following up until we figure it out. I needed to get this done ASAP because the car goes into the bodyshop this weekend and I'll be car-less for a few weeks. Gavin has an appointment with gastro coming up and we need…

Gavin keeps losing weight

I've not talked about this in a while but as it's become a problem once again, it's time. Gavin is losing weight after maintaining for a most of the year. He's not losing crazy amounts of weight but he's lost all he's gained. We have an upcoming GI appointment and we're going to discuss the issues with his current labs (Bilirubin) and what, if anything we need to do. This will be done remotely since the labs were already done and it will be safer for Gavin. For his entire life, gaining weight has always been a problem. For much of this year, he was maintaining at 140 lbs and today he's down to 130 lbs. This wasn't overnight but it's where we are today. We've been tracking this forever…

We had to break quarantine for the first time in 173 days

I'm absolutely exhausted but I wanted to share a quick update and then go into more detail later on if need be. We wore our KN95 masks and broke quarantine today for the first time in 173 days. That means we came into direct, sustained contact with other people for the first time since this all began. The reason for this was vaccines. Elliott and Emmett each needed a vaccine. Elliott needed his MMR booster and Emmett started his HPV. Elliott had his MMR delayed for health reasons when he was little and he needed to get caught up. Gavin needed labwork and all four of us needed flu shots. We visited Akron Children's Hospital for the boys vaccines and Rite Aid for our flu shots. I wanted to make…
