It’s a bad day but this is how we’re going to move forward

I'm desperately trying to change the course of our day for the better. The boys want to go back to Quail Hollow and go hiking today. I don't exactly feel up to doing that and I know Lizze is still a bit under the weather. Having said that, it's a very positive activity and it gets them away from their tablets. They may take them with us for the sole purpose of taking pictures, and I'm okay with that. If we do end up going, I think we'll take Ruby with us. She'd have a great time and that's something we couldn't easily do with Maggie. She was way too big to load in the car and people don't always react well to pits. This will help to make a…

It’s going to be a great day

We're up and at it early today because Lizze, Elliott and Emmett are taking part in the annual July 4th race. They are walking with my Mom, sister and sister-in-law on the two mile course. Everyone's really excited and it should be lots of fun. Gavin and I will be waiting at the finish line with my Dad and grandpa. I'm a bit uncomfortable taking Gavin into a crowd of people, considering his current situation but it is what it is and I'm probably overreacting. Afterwards, we're going to my parents house for a light brunch and to celebrate Emmett's birthday with the family. It should be a good day but it's alps going to be a hot one. A heat warning begins at 9 AM and carries through the…

Hiking at @StarkParks Sippo Lake with our #Autistic kids

I'm way behind on this particular post because it's been a long week. That being said, I wanted to share pictures from our hike at Stark Parks Sippo Lake. We planned this day trip the night before and it was only about a twenty-minute drive from our house. This particular hike was a bit less aggressive than our previous hike at Quail Hollow a few days prior. The path took us on about a 1.8 mile journey through lightly wooded and marshy areas. While we prefer the more off the beaten path kinda trails, this was still absolutely beautiful. The boys struggled with this one more than they did at Quail Hollow and that hike was over a mile longer. I think the problem was the crushed limestone path. The…

100 pictures from our amazing hike at @StarkParks Quail Hollow

I've been talking about how we want to make this a good summer for the kids. With a tight, sometimes nonexistent budget, we're limited to local things. Admittedly, I've been very discouraged by our limitations. I've felt demoralized and defeated but I at the same time, I can't give up because that would be letting my family down. Lizze and I have made a conscious decision to focus on what we can do rather than what we can't and that's something I feel good about. ☺ One of the things we can do are day trips. These are close to home but can be fun nonetheless. Today we took the kids to Quail Hollow Park. It used to be a State Park but was given to Stark County awhile back…

We had a nice little family outing

In an effort to make the best of the time we had yesterday, I packed everyone up, including Ruby and we hit a local nature trail. We only took the trail for about 1.5 miles but it was fun. Afterwards I took everyone for some ice cream before heading home and having a quiet evening. [foogallery id="81113"]

It was just the guys today

Lizze has been out with her Mom all day and that means it's just been us. We spent the afternoon watching the Cavs beat the Pacers, we decided to go to the park. The boys went exploring and Pokémon hunting. Gavin wandered around aimlessly for a little while but had fun. Spring is definitely out in full force here in Ohio. All I need to do now is figure out dinner. I've no idea what we're gonna do for dinner. No one can agree on anything and I'm not in the mood for this much indecision.... 😳 [foogallery id="79481"]

Here’s what we decided in regards to the boys running today

A few things have changed since my last post. (See here) We've found Elliott's pants, which is a good thing regardless, but it means he has something to wear to run in. Elliott has lots of pants but only one pair of wind pants cause he doesn't like wearing them. Anyway, the weather is still crappy but the boys are really motivated to push through this and frankly, I don't want to stand in their way. At this point in time, we look to arrive for the race at 1PM and meet everyone who's coming to cheer them on. One of the concerns we had when this race first came up was letting the boys run without one of us being there with them. There are a million things that…
