From disaster to happy ending

Elliott had his occupational therapy re-evaluation yesterday. When it was time to go, he freaked out because it cut into his routine. Once I physically got him there, he was okay. For the most part, Elliott did really well. There are a few things he's struggling with, and they may refer him to physical therapy, as it may be a better fit. There's obviously sensory issues that OT would benefit, but his tests have to be scored and a plan put together. They will be calling me with his first appointment in the near future. As it stands, it looks like he will go to OT once a week for awhile, and we'll see how things go. If he reaches his goals, he may be moved to PT instead. PT…

Our guy time has come to an end

The boys and I had a great guys day yesterday. Lizze will be home in a few his from her trip with her Mom, and our guy time will come to an end for now. Last night we walked the track again. Emmett only had to stop a few times to fix his crocs and that's awesome, especially considering we walked a mile and a half. I'm super proud. ☺ Elliott and Gavin did great as well. We finished in just about thirty-four minutes, and that's respectable. After the exercise, we wanted to do something special for our final guys night. We decided to watch the Kong: Skull Island via Google Play. Elliott wasn't in the mood to watch a movie so he hung out in his room, after eating…

You won’t believe what he looked like

I think Emmett had a pretty good birthday. He had received his birthday gift early from us, but we had a special dinner tonight. We're actually going to officially celebrate on Friday or Saturday.  We were going to go to Chuck E Cheeses, and use the guest passes we received after our horrible visit a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately, they were crazy busy and we decided to put that off for another day.  We've sorta started a new tradition with the kids. Lizze and I will take the birthday boy out for some special time as Emmett calls it. Right now, Emmett is debating between Chuck E Cheeses, and going to see the new Transformers movie.  My vote is for the movie, but whatever makes him happy. ☺  I did…

Rediscovering forgotten skills

I have been working to reduce the amount of time Gavin spends on his tablet during the day. Part of that process is requiring him to practice some of his other skills during the day.  The first forgotten skill is drawing.  Gavin used to spend a great deal time drawing. He hasn't been drawing in for quite awhile. I'm not sure why, but I'm trying to reintroduce him to his past love of art.  At some point during the day, Gavin is required to take a break from his tablet and draw three pictures. As time goes on, I'll introduce different tasks as well. This is meant to keep his brain working, as well as broaden his horizon.  Gavin has no complaints about this and I'm hoping his love of…

Pictures from our #Autism family adventure

While Lizze was resting today, I took the boys for a hike. We went about two-ish miles, and everyone made it to the end.  Mr. Emmett needed to make about a dozen or so stops to fix his crocs, but he did so and continued on. We all had fun, explored nature and got some exercise.  I told the boys that perhaps after Lizze wakes up, we'll go to a playground, and maybe get some ice cream to celebrate Mother's Day a bit early. ☺  Below are some of the pictures I took from our hike today.

On a lighter note…..

Lizze and I had a relatively quiet night, after the boys went to bed. Noone came down because they all fell asleep. ☺  Anyway, I wanted to share a few things that I felt were really positive. Maybe not so much positive, but pleasant for me personally. This may seem kinda dumb but I spent some time rebuilding the ferret pen tonight.  We have been have a problem with Lemme. She keeps letting herself out, because she enjoys wandering the house. She never causes any harm, but we don't want her getting hurt or getting into something she shouldn't.  Lemme is crazy smart. She will exploit any possible way to get out of her pen. It's truly amazing to see how she thinks. Thank God she's the only smart one,…

How I saved my sanity and calmed our #Autism house

Lizze and I took the boys to the park this evening. It had been a stressful day for a number of reasons, and I wanted to steer the car back onto the road.  We all had fun. Emmett caught Pokémon, and Elliott was doing something on his tablet. Elliott was enjoying sitting on the bench in the garden. It was a tranquil moment for him, and while I'd of preferred no tablets, I was happy to see them happy.  Gavin went straight to his favorite spot and sat down. He loves these big rocks above a small waterfall.  While keeping a close eye on the boys, I got to spend some time doing one of my favorite things, aside from writing. I love taking pictures, especially nature related.  At some…
