Tonight’s meltdown just about pushed me over the edge

We lived through a massive Emmett meltdown this evening. This particular meltdown was in regards to his dinner and it was a doozy, as well as being partly my fault. Emmett is very sensitive when it comes to food. He has major sensory related issues that make feeding him very challenging because the menu of foods that he'll eat is very limited. I was making him and Elliott dinner last night. They both wanted corndogs. The corn dogs have to be cooked a certain way, or Emmett won't eat them. First, we have to microwave it for thirty seconds, no more no less. If the crust cracks, he won't touch it so we have to be careful. After the microwave, the corn dog goes into the air fryer for seven…

Guess who’s sick

The boys had a good day at school but Elliott looks like shit and is running a fever. I don't think it's anything serious as it's probably just a cold. That said, a fever is a fever and he will be home tomorrow. I need to speak with his teachers because Elliott is saying that they told the class not to come to school if they're running a fever, and yet we're critical about the time Elliott's missed this year because he was sick. He also alleges that they said for him to be in school, even if he's sick, as long as he's not running a fever. Lizze and I want to clear this up because I'm hoping Elliott misunderstood. If there is indeed a problem, take it up…

This is kinda weird

We learned something today from Gavin, that seems sorta strange. He made it a point to tell Lizze while I was gone, and then me while we were dropping off the boys lunches.

Gavin informed us that he has been taking showers while he’s hanging out with my parents on Wednesdays while the boys are in school.

It’s not so much that he takes a shower at my parents house, cause that’s not a big deal at all. It’s more about the way he talked about it. He said that he asks if he can take a shower and they let him. Again, not a big deal and my parents aren’t doing anything wrong.

What’s weird about it is he doesn’t need a shower. He does that at home and there’s no reason for him to be asking to take one.

I might actually call today productive

Everyone got off to school this morning without too much of a problem. That allowed me to meet my Mom and walk about four miles before 10 AM. I'm super pumped about that. When I was done, I picked Lizze and Gavin up because we needed to get the boys lunches to school. After that, I dropped Lizze off at the hospital and proceeded to take Gavin to my parents. I came back and picked Lizze up before returning home. It was important for her to see her Dad and this let us get everything done that needed to be done. I had to get some work done but that was Photoshop and that's more fun than work for me. ☺ I've also been watching the news and it looks…

Fit4Autism: Weigh-in Wednesday 9.6.17

Weight-loss is a very personal thing and sharing one's weight, especially when one is overweight, isn't easy. I feel as though I have a responsibility to my readers, and as such, I'm choosing to do weigh-in Wednesday's. Preaching about the importance of taking care of ourselves falls flat if I don't lead by example. If that means sharing some personal information that is frankly, embarrassing than so be it. My hope is that I can inspire other Autism parents to work on their own health and wellness.

I’ve figured out the basic logistics of our #Wish trip

I spoke with Wishes Can Happen yesterday, and we've figured out some of the logistics for our trip, assuming Hurricane Irma doesn't force us to reschedule. We will be leaving on the 29th, and driving through to Charlotte, NC. That's about a seven hour drive. We'll spend the night in Charlotte before making our way to Daytona Beach. That's about another seven hour drive. We're going to spend the night in Daytona Beach. Then we will head to Orlando for six days. I still need to figure out the stops along the way for food, gas and bathroom breaks. We also have to have some idea where the hospitals are as well in case Gavin has any problems. This is one of the reasons we chose to drive. The reality…

Elliott should be back to school today

Elliott will most likely be returning to school in the morning. It appears that he's dealing with a head cold and the drainage is what was causing him all the problems. This happens a the time and there's really no way to know why he's nauseated or dealing with a headache and sore throat until it sorta works itself out. He was a bit under the weather at bedtime but otherwise fine. He doesn't have a fever and if all holds true through the night, I will be driving him to school before my morning walk. ☺

What happens when a house burns down?

The other night, there were two house fires on our block, one across the street and the other, behind it on the next street. Both fires were most likely arson but no one was hurt because both houses were vacant disasters. I wanted to share what it looked like after the fire was put out and cleaned up. Truthfully, I was surprised they took the house down so quickly because they usually sit for awhile before that happens. Check out the pictures below. [foogallery id="65183"]
