Guess who fell asleep in their own bed tonight

Much of the news tonight is of a very positive nature, and that feels awesome.  We ended our night by discovering that Mr. Emmett had fallen asleep in his own bed for the first time in I don't know how long.  This is huge for us because it's been a struggle.   I realize it's only been one time but that one time means it's possible and possible gives me hope that we'll be able to work through this challenging situation with our youngest.  Awesome job Emmett...  ☺ 💙

I’m so proud of my son for making a positive change

I wanted to drop a quick note and share that I think we're making some progress with Elliott in regards to homework.  Every day this week, he's come home and done his homework with little or no issue. We started a new routine where he simply does his homework after he gets home from school because there is no screen time until he does.  There was resistance at first, but he's come around.  Nothing with autism comes without persistence and a shit load of patience but when it arrives all the effort was totally worth it. Kudos to Elliott for working through this making a positive change... ☺

What happened at the school meeting to help stop my son’s bully

Lizze and I met with the school this morning for an official meeting about Elliott being bullied. There's been lots of discussion surrounding this lately, and the purpose of this meeting was to get everyone on the same page.  The meeting lasted maybe 30 minutes and was attended by all of Elliott's main teachers throughout the day, the principal, interventionist and of course, Lizze and myself.   [ditty_news_ticker id="47402"] I feel that the meeting was overwhelmingly positive because it provided some clarification as to what's going on and allowed us to formulate a plan for moving forward.   The one issue we ran into was that no one aside from Elliott has witnessed him being assaulted. This limits what the school can do to address this and today we learned…

12 things happened that almost broke me today

I mentioned in a previous post that Tuesday was a rough day.  I promised I would share the details in a later entry and here it is. It's probably going to be easier if I just list everything that happened on Tuesday, rather than go into detail about it.  I'm not necessarily complaining about this stuff. These things just made a difficult day, all that more challenging to survive.  We over slept and only had ten minutes to get the boys ready for school. Kids with Autism cannot be rushed.  My back went out again while rushing around trying to get out the door.  Emmett had a stomachache (likely from post nasal drip) and had to stay home, throwing off our plans for the day.  After two consecutive days of…

A MAJOR UPDATE to the bullying situation affecting my son with #Autism

It's been a rough few days and I'm just getting over being sick. There's a lot I need to catch up on and that's going kinda slow at the moment.  On top of that, pretty much everything that could go wrong, did go wrong today but that's another entry.  Having said that, the one thing that hasn't been back burnered is addressing Elliott's ongoing issues with the kid that's bullying him at school. In fact, I've been dealing with that every day since it's come to light.  This morning I met with the office staff at the boy's school and had what my old business partner would call a come to Jesus meeting.  It seems like communication within the school is breaking down somewhere because every time I talk to…

The Final Letter: When the school fails to effectively discipline my son’s bully

I picked up the boys from school on Monday afternoon and just prior to them walking out, I was greeted by who I think is the interventionist. It hadn't occurred to me that she would be a resource. She was quite upset and apologetic about what's been happening to Elliott.  Having just learned about it, she has assured me it will be dealt with swiftly on Tuesday morning. Why she's just now hearing about this if just one of the many questions I have.  It's not that I don't believe her. She's very genuine and frankly, the reaction she had to this is what everyone's reaction should have been all along.   Having said that, I won't let up until I know this has been put to bed.  In the…

I’m waiting to find out how the school day went for my kiddos

My day thus far has been spent in and out of consciousness. 😁  I woke up today feeling like complete garbage and seeing as I only got about three hours of sleep, I have spent the first part of the day under a blanket and passed out on the couch.  I am feeling a little better having gotten some sleep, but I'm still under the weather.  As a result of my needed downtime today, Gavin's IVIG infusion had to be put off until tonight. That's not a big deal because we sometimes do it at night anyway.  The boys have made it the whole day at school, and that's an awesome thing cause that means they're feeling better.  I'm just waiting for them to come out the door before I…

Really good news and a bit of bad news

There are quite a few things to celebrate on this first Monday of December. For starters, both boys are currently at school, and that's good because it means they're feeling better.  To raise things to a new level of awesome, Mr. Emmett wore his socks and slippers to school without a single issue. In fact, he put them on without being asked. Frankly, I haven't a clue what happened there but we just ran with it.☺  Elliott had some problems this morning, but we worked through them.  On the downside, whole I thought I was feeling better last night, I'm feeling pretty shitty today. I barely slept last night and haven't moved much since the boys went to school.  I'm trying to take it easy today because I've probably on…
