Gavin took a big step forward today

Gavin has suddenly become more interested in assisting with his own IVIG infusions. He's been putting the equipment together for the longest time but never wanted to draw up the meds and put the pump together.  The last two infusions, he's asked to draw up the medication and prime the pump.  It's not difficult but it does take fine motor proficiency that Gavin simply doesn't have. He struggled with it but finished the job, all by himself. That's awesome, because it's really important for him to learn to do these things on his own.  I'm really proud of him because he didn't get frustrated and just kept working at it until it was done.  I meant to take a picture but forgot. I'll try to remember on Monday.  The last…

This is a weird way to start the school year

The boys started back to school yesterday, and I thought that was weird because that makes it a row day week. I'm not sure why they would do that, as it really doesn't make much sense.  Today however, the boys came home with a note saying that Monday is optional because of the eclipse.  So just to recap, they start the school year off with a two day week, a three day weekend, and a four day week. Figuring in the upcoming holiday, I'm not sure, but I think their first full week of school isn't until September.  The reason this seems so weird is because they don't normally start back until after Labor Day. This year however, they started back in the middle of August.  This is going to…

I’m really excited but at the same time really nervous

Life can be so frustrating sometimes. We have this amazing trip to look forward to, and the idea of going has us sorta freaking out. There's so much to plan for and we're going to be somewhere we've never been, almost 20 hours away from home.  Don't get me wrong, this trip is one of the best things to ever happen to our family. We've never been on a vacation or even travelled more than one hundred miles from home.  The kids are really excited and we are as well. We are just working on the logistics of everything and trying to take everything into account.  I don't think the drive will be too rough. We'll have a nice vehicle with plenty of room and we'll have a hotel stay…

I think it’s great

Gavin's going to spend some time with his grandmother this afternoon. He wasn't able to spend the night last weekend and she wants to get him some lunch.  I think it's great.  They're going to be very cautious with things and make sure he doesn't overeat while he's there. I know Gavin's excited and truthfully, as terrible as it sounds, I really need a Gavin break.  He's such a sweet kid but the constant talking is slowly making me crazy today.

I’m really proud of myself today

I'm feeling good today. We had a good morning, and the kids got off to school with little struggle. I was even able to grab an almost three mile walk this morning as well.  I even made a new breakfast smoothie for after my walk and it was awesome. ☺  This time around, my smoothie consisted of: 1 cup blueberries 1 cup spinach 1 tbsp chia seeds 1 cup of skim milk 1 cup of ice .5 cup plain Greek yogurt 1.25 scoop SlimFast  1 scoop vegan protein powder  It was really good, had tons of protein and came in under my calorie goal for breakfast. It's almost lunch time and I'm not even hungry. ☺  I'm also putting a major focus on water consumption as well. I fell short…

A much smoother morning

The boys had a really good morning. Emmett was able to get dressed without much problem because we didn't even try for a uniform shirt.  We're going to need to invest in some solid color t-shirts, because those are dress code.  The bottom line is the boys did quite well today and I'm really proud of them.

I could use a boost in both areas

I'm returning to my walking routine this morning. My goal is at least three miles. I'll be meeting up with my Mom for the walk, and I'm looking forward to it.  I'm really making an effort to whip myself into shape, make better choices and be more active. Walking has proven to do wonders for me both emotionally and physically. Frankly, I could use a boost in both areas right now.

When good news is frustrating

I try to document our adventures as best I can, but not at the cost of being present in the moment with my family. Part of why I do this is because it helps to provide further context into our journey.  Yesterday, I had to get Gavin to Akron Children's Hospital for an eye exam. He's been complaining of episodes where his vision goes dark and all he can see is blackness.  As it turns out, his vision issues have nothing to do with his eyes. That's good but frustrating at the same time. We still don't know what's going on or as one of my readers pointed out, whether or not these are really happening.  No one thinks he's making this up but at the same time, perhaps he's…
