Why I use the word “war” in regards to my struggle with depression

Later on tonight I will be sharing some very personal shit.  I will be talking about my war on depression.

When I speak about depression and how it impacts my life, I will use the word war.

I use the word war rather than battle because living with depression is ongoing, with many highs and lows.

Typically, in some way shape or form, depression is something that will always be there.  War consists of many individual battles.

There are plenty of times that depression wins the battle for control over my life but there are also many times where I kick depressions ass.

It’s a give and take..

War seems to be a more accurate description of this journey because there will be many battles fought along the way.  Some will be won and others will be lost.

At the end of a really bad day, I’m unafraid to conceded victory to depression because I know that it’s but one battle.

I like looking at it this way because it allows a bad day, week, month or year to be just that.

I’ll come back stronger and once again put depression in its place.
