The gift of time

I truly believe that one of the very best things I can give my kids is the gift of time, my time. That may sound like I have a high opinion of myself but I don’t and I certainly don’t mean it that way.

The truth is, kids love to spend time with their parents, especially when they are younger.

Emmett and Elliott are always asking me to play with them. Since I work from home, I’m better able to accommodate them.  However, I do have to work so I can’t always say yes.

Sometimes I’m just too tired.

However, I made the decision to spend some extra time with Emmett Friday  morning and afternoon, making turkeys out of construction paper.

We simply traced each other’s hands and turned them into turkeys.

It was a lot of fun and Emmett had a blast.

I try to use these times to help Emmett understand that things don’t always have to be perfect.  I told him today that sometimes it’s coloring outside of the lines that make a picture truly special.

He of course, doesn’t handle imperfections like, coloring outside of the lines,  very well.

That’s something we’re going to continue to help him with.

Anyway, I really enjoyed my extra time with my sweet little Emmett John today.  I’m really proud of him and he’s really proud of our turkeys.  🙂

Such a great way to give your son one-on-one time in a quality way!  I hope you are making a turkey farm to keep his turkeys in for Thanksgiving.  That would be a great centerpiece for the table–his special contribution to the meal.  Big E could do the pilgrims….just a thought.  You're a great dad, Rob!
