What sleep looks like for this Special Needs Father

It’s no secret that most special needs parents would cut of their right arm for a good night’s sleep.  I’ve been trying to figure out a way to help illustrate exactly what a good night’s sleep might look like.

Since I’ve been using my UP24 band for the past few months, I’ve been getting some interesting results when it tracks KY sleep each night.

This is about an average nights sleep for me.  Sometimes it’s better and sometimes it’s not.

The orange bars represent times that I was awake.  The light blue is lighter sleep and the darker blue is deep sleep.

This is happens to be from last night.

When I lay down to go to sleep, I push a button to begin tracking my sleep cycle.  I had a hard time falling asleep last night because of my preoccupation with all the things going on with Gavin.

I finally fell asleep, only to be awoken by Emmett.  He’d had a bad dream and climbed into bed with us.  I don’t really remember that happening hut I remember waking up because he was sorta pushing me off the bed.

I moved down to the couch because I figured that would be my best bet for sleep.

It worked for a short while but Emmett came down and woke me up again.  It was like this all night long and it’s like this most nights. If it’s not bad dreams it’s something else.

Last night wasn’t too bad because I did manage just under 5 hours of sleep.

I just thought this would be interesting to share because it does illustrate one reason I’m so tired all the time….

In a side note, I would like to add that if you are already an UP user, look me up and add me to your team.  We can help motivate each other and celebrate our victories together.  🙂
