It’s been a challenging day for me because I’m human and not a superhero

It’s been a somewhat challenging day for me. Everyone was struggling today and that always makes life more difficult. Lizze’s migraine is breaking her down and the goal for Monday is to figure out where we are with insurance in regards to approving her headache infusions.

She desperately needs them and because they could break her current migraine. That would mean that between the Aimovig and Cefaly, she may have a shot of preventing or reducing the frequency/intensity of her migraines going forward. She’s really in bad spot right now and there is absolutely nothing we can do for her until we hear back from insurance.

That being said, she’s a total trooper. We took the kids to see The Grinch at the dollar movies tonight because it was cheap and we hadn’t seen it yet. It’s was obviously painful but Lizze made it through the movie and actually had fun. The boys loved it and I managed to stay awake. ☺

It was nice to get out as a family because it doesn’t happen nearly as often as I’d like.

One of the things that I’m working very diligently on is improving our overall quality of life. That means improving our immediate environment and adding things that not only enrich our lives but also bring us closer as a family.

As an example:

In the short term, we can better organize the house and maybe add things to it that would make it more comfortable help to improve our existence in it. In the long-term, we absolutely must move. That simply has to happen.

In the short term, we can cut back in some areas in order to more frequently allow for things like going out to dinner as a family or going to a movie. We’d love to take some day trips or maybe weekend trips as often as possible but that’s requires things that are unavailable to us at the moment, so it’s a long-term goal.

Some of those things require nothing more than simple adjustments to our life, while others require increased income. That’s something I’m absolutely working on. It’s a slow process but I’m making strides and moving in the right direction. ☺

It’s hard to find a balance between the unbelievable demands associated with being a special needs parent and unforgiving demands of everyday life.

One of the most recent things I’m doing to increase my income is podcasting. This allows me to reach people differently and help in ways I was previously unable to. It also allows me to get sponsors and that’s helps feed my kids.

It’s been a very positive experience so far. The Autism Dad podcast has also been very well received thus far and that’s amazing. I’m so grateful to have this opportunity to both improve my family’s life and help others at the same time.

If you haven’t already checked it out, you can listen via your favorite podcast app. Please subscribe and share with your friends. You’ll not only be helping my family but helping me to help others as well. ☺

I get migraines every other month so I cannot imagine having one non stop. She is superwoman for seeing a movie!

Sounds good Rob. It also sounds like your state of mind is calmer, and thus you can make plans easier. Harder when everything in your life is like having to put out fires.
