Do you have a song that makes you think of your child?

I’m one of those people that attached a great deal of meaning to songs.  While waiting to pick up Gavin from school today, this song came over Google Music and no matter what I’m doing one where I’m at, it always makes me think of Gavin.

The name of the song is Unwell by matchbox twenty.

I’ve associated this song with Gavin, ever since he began have psychotic breaks.  When  Gavin experiences a psychotic break, he basically sees things and hears things that are really there.  Psychotic break simply means that he’s lost touch with reality.

This song always reminds me of those struggles we faced when we first discovered that Gavin has form of schizophrenia.

In some weird way, this song has always been comforting for me and I thought I would share it with you all.

Is there a song that you will hear and it makes you think of your  child?  Why?

The song I think of with my older son is cheesy, although very meaningful for me.  Remember “unwritten”?  the song that they played at the beginning of that show the Hills on MTV?  Well I had taken a pregnancy test with Jack and it looked negative to me.  I dropped it in my purse (took it at work).  The next day I went to pull out my keys when I was going to lunch and I grabbed the test instead- ummmmm second line???? That song was on the radio when I drove like a madwoman to the store to get another test…

I think of my Jacob when I hear “Wonder” by Natalie Merchant and “Firework” by Katy Perry

I am a singer. I do gigs quite often. I was singing a song to Khai yesterday . Just the way you are by Bruno Mars. I just changed a few of the words around to suit him. Its our song now. Hes even singing it with me. Its suppose to be a love song  to a girl, but I made it a love song to him. A little bit different to your associating your song with Gavin, which is an awesome song. I do have two that remind me of my 24 year old daughter and the struggles she has been through over the last 7 years with her boyfriend.  Catherine Britt Too far Gone and Jar of hearts Christina Perry .I get very emotional when I hear these two songs.

For my oldest it is over the rainbow / what a wonderful world. It was featured on the meet joe black soundtrack and in the tv show ER when dr green was dying. For my third kiddo it is chasing cars by snow patrol because it was on heavy rotation when she was an infant and it would always come on the radio when I was laying down with her for a nap. Unfortunately hate me by blue October for my aspie kiddo because in the album version the song starts with a mom leaving a message for her son checking in on him during a depression episode and this is what has become of our life with her. It is so hard having a borderline suicidal 10 year old. For my son it would have to be proud from Steven Curtis chapman. If you have never heard it it is about a father being proud of his so. No matter what. One song that I love to listen to when I feel like I am failing as a mom is if ever you worshipped by Danny oertli. He has an amazing story and every mother should know that song
