This is a special Halloween edition of What is Occupational Therapy. In this episode Emmett's OT is working with him to cross his midline, something Emmett really struggles with. The entire staff dressed up for the kids. It was really cool to see so many adults dressing up for Halloween just to make the kids smile. It's that time of year again. Trick or treat is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon in my area.  While many parents don't have to give this a second thought,  as special needs parents,  we have to decide if trick or treat is even worth it. I say that because,  as many of you out there can attest to,  trick or treat could also be called overstimulation or meltdown. This is especially true for Gavin,  who's already struggling with life as it is. As much as he wants to go,  he simply can't handle it.  Do we allow him to go,  even if it's going to cause problems for the next few days? We face this choice every single year. Today has been one of those days that I'm reminded just how challenging life really is. Sometimes I think I'm just so acclimated to the stress and chaos that it seems normal. It takes a day like today for me to realize just how stressed out in really am. Nothing went right today.  From the moment I woke up, everything just went wrong.  Emmett has been in rare form..all day long.  It's like his sole purpose is to destroy everything.  He's literally throwing anything he can get his hands on.  He's bullying Elliott and Gavin both.  ....and the screaming,  oh God the screaming.  I just can't even begin to tell you..... Many of you out there know that I'm huge into technology and have been repairing computers for years now.  My computer is officially dead.  The irony comes in the fact that I can't fix it because it's the motherboard that's bad.  This is going to throw a wrench in the other wise,  well oiled machine that is the Lost and Tired household :-\ You never truly appreciate anything until it's gone...
