We had the #meltdown from Hell tonight

We had the absolute worst meltdown we’ve had in God only knows how long.  Believe it or not but this had nothing to do with Gavin either.

Tonight was all Emmett John.

He got upset because he couldn’t run to get the pizza with me.  I just wanted to get in and out and the van we are borrowing isn’t real easy to get the kids in and out of.

Emmett lost it.

Lizze sent me to get the pizza while she dealt with Emmett.  I was gone less than 10 minutes but as I walked out the door, I heard Emmett say that he was going to pinch her and kick her.  Still, Lizze told me to go because the boys needed to eat and we needed the pizza for the boys lunches.

As I walked back into the house Emmett was still freaking out.

Lizze was handling the situation like a champ.

That said, in the less than 10 minutes I was gone, Emmett had beat her up.  He punched and kicked her like he was fighting for his life or something.

Elliott was freaking out because he was so scared.  Lizze said that Gavin rushed to protect and comfort Elliott.  I can’t tell how proud of him I am for that.

It took a great deal of time to get Emmett to settle down.  He was completely out of control and I’m really not sure what triggered this.  If this was just him getting upset because he couldn’t make the run to Little Ceasars with me, I don’t really know what to say.

I suspect that perhaps he had a stressful day at school or something but maybe not. Who knows…..

Lizze is sore but no worse for ware.

Emmett lost all screen time for assaulting Lizze and threatening her.  He’ll have everything back when he gets home from school but there needs to be accountability for his actions.  We would certainly do the same for Elliott and we have done this many times in the past with Gavin.

That said, Emmett’s the only one to ever physically attacked Lizze.

I don’t know what’s going on with Emmett but he used to do this all the time when he was little and we had thought it was a phase we had gotten through and put behind us.

This event basically sucked the life right out of me tonight.  By the time this was all said and done, Lizze and I were both done for the night.  I was completely tapped of energy and I sorta zoned out.

I’m praying that we have a peaceful night and a workable morning.

Lizze is physically okay but emotionally, not so much.  Having one of your kids do something like this to you is not easy to cope with.

We all made it through and tomorrow will hopefully be a better day.

Great job Gavin!!!! Way to be an excellent big brother!!!! Woot. Very proud. That’s a sign of healing -at least from the RAD- IMO. And that makes my heart smile so big.
That said, I am so sorry that you and Lizze had to endure this. Sounds like Emmett is really struggling with big feelings. Praying for the whole family.

Totally my kid. I go in to work looking like I was in a bar fight sometimes. It’s almost like having an abusive spouse…find yourself making excuses sometimes. Really, how many times can you step on a rake? It’s tough and I get it.
