The highlight of my day

Elliott and I spent some time together playing Minecraft on the XBOX.  Elliott and I have been playing in survival mode and having an absolute blast.  I don't spend enough one on one time with Elliott and this is one of the ways we are squeezing in some extra time. This was the highlight of my day....... This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please make this easier for me

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm not forgetting to announce the winners of my giveaways. As soon as the contest ends, I email the winner.  Sometimes, I don't hear back within the 24 hours and I have to pick a new winner and try again.  Once I actually get a response, I will them announce the name publicly. It's easier that way... As a reminder, please, please, please check your email.  Please make sure you provide an active email address and if you live in the middle east or any other country outside of the US and Canada, you can't win.  I'm sorry but those are the rules. . We found a better place

I wanted to let you all know that our trip to the movies was widely successful.  We saw The Croods and the boys loved it.  In fact, they loved it so much that they actually sat through the entire movie and even part of the credits. It wouldn't seem like a movie would help to decompress the boys but it does seem to help. They are both in a better mood having come out of that hour and a half in a much better place. Hopefully, this  can carry us through the rest of the weekend. Have you ever had to throw caution to the do something out of desperation, in order to help your kids find a better day? Out of sheer desperation

In a move based out of sheer desperation, we are taking the boys to a movie.  I think we are seeing The Groods. The boys have been at each others throats all day and I just can't take it anymore. It's way to cold outside to go to the playground and I think they will enjoy getting out of the house.  They love the movie theater even though we don't get to go that often.  In truth, I'm desperate and I just need to make the screaming and fighting stop, even if it's only for 90 minutes. Anyone else ever feel like this? This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Morning Meltdowns

It's 9:30 am and we have already had a 30 minute meltdown. To be honest, I don't even know why it happened. All I know for sure is that Elliott is having a rough morning.  Apparently, Elliott was up pretty late last night.  He was having a hard time sleeping, so he was watching cartoons and just resting.  This is pretty unusual for Elliott.  I don't know why he's having such a rough time lately. Dr. Patti, Lizze and I have a theory but I'll share that later. Right now, I'm just hoping that everything settles down today and we can have a relaxing weekend. Confessions of an #Autism Dad

I want to apologize for being so hit and miss as of late. We're kinda going through a really rough time and I've been and still am, sick. I've got a few really cool things in the works for the month of April and that’s taking up a bit of my time. There is just so much going on anymore and I'm really overwhelmed. As you likely already know, on top of everything we have going on with Lizze and the boys, I'm struggling with depression. Having been on medication for awhile now, I'm doing better than if I hadn't talked to my doctor. However, at the same time, medication doesn't just make depression go away. There's no question that the right medication can help but it's still a ton…

I want to talk about the Person First Language

By now, I would imagine that we have all heard about the person first language. Basically, the premise of this is that you put the person before the disorder. As I understand it, addressing someone in the person first language would go something like this.  This is my son Johnny, he has Autism. The point is that some people feel that if you were to say something like, This is my son Johnny  and he's autistic, or This is my Autistic son Johnny, that you are identifying them by the disorder and not who they are as a person. To me, I've always felt this was really silly and honestly, kinda petty. If you speak to an adult with Autism, more often than not they prefer to be called Autistic.…
