My family is the poster family for life can really sick. However, I really do try to remain positive as much as I possibly can.  You won't find me trying to spin reality I to a positive light because I think that it's vital that we face the reality of a situation. Having said that, even on the worst of days, it can be possible to find something to be grateful for.  Sometimes, for me, I grateful to have physically survived the day.  Other times I'm grateful that only one of my kids is in the hospital.  On some days, I'm grateful that we didn't receive any mail because that means a day without new bills piling up. I want to issue a challenge to everyone that reads this site.  This is pretty simple and it doesn't have to cost you a thing.  Having said that, it can really make a difference in the world. Pay it forward.  Basically, what that means is do something nice for someone else, with no strings attached and with no expectations of them returning the favor to you.  Instead, the only thing that you ask of them in return, is to pay it forward to someone else. Maybe you pay for someone's food while in line at the drive thru. Perhaps, you shovel a neighbors driveway or sidewalk.  You could also simply donate a smile and a kind word to someone who could really use it.  There are literally millions of ways…

Gavin spent about an hour at home this afternoon.  While he was home, he shared with us something that he drew and then painted.  It's this really cool Asian dragon. Today, while at therapy with the boys, I was reminded of something that I have lost sight of.  I watched as this little boy, maybe 5 years of age,  struggled with having his shoes and socks put back on after his session  was done.  He appeared to be nonverbal and was clearly agitated.  I thought the PT did a really good job of redirecting him. The little boy just kept trying to brush his own bare feet and was refusing to put his shoes and socks back on.  The PT was communicating with him via spoke words and also ASL. I was instantly transported back in time to when Emmett was nonverbal and we struggled with everything.  I had to fight back the tears as I watched this little boy…

Perhaps this sounds like a really dumb question and maybe it is. However, it's one that I'm going to ask anyway. Can it ever be bad to positive? The reason I ask is because we are involved in a program called Wraparound.  This program helps families to locate and obtain resources that are vital to a families survival.  It's a really good program and would recommend it to others in need.  Having said that, Wraparound is built around being positive.  I can't remember how they actually word that but you get the point.  Basically, the program focuses in the positives and celebrated the victories.  This isn't a bad thing.  However, what about the times when there isn't really a positive?
