There is something to be said for kids with Autism getting some time with a Nintendo Wii. I have found that the simplistic nature of the Wii is great for many special needs kids. In Gvain’s case it helps him with eye hand coordination and patience. He also feels really good about himself when he does well. The Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort allow him to get “some” of his sensory needs met. It also get’s him physically moving instead of sitting on the couch playing regular video games. However, it does come with some frustration and the fine motor skills just aren’t there. He also really does have movement issues which interfere with his ability to play. So we only ever do a little bit at a time. At least it’s something…..
