We return to the @ClevelandClinic this week

Contrary to popular belief, we actually do take our kids to the doctors, in fact, we are actually scheduled to return to the Cleveland Clinic this Wednesday.  :-P See, I'm reaching a point that I can sometimes joke about this whole CPS crap. Anyway, Gavin will be seen by the urologist because of bladder control issues.  His autonomic specialist wants to rule out any sort of physical bladder problems before considering that this is part of the autonomic dysfunction. Gavin will have an xray and ultrasound done on his bladder, just prior to the appointment. This will provide lots of information. This will likely be an awkward appointment because of its sensitive nature. Unfortunately, this is just another stop on the journey to figure out what is going on with…

#Autism and ignorance on the playground

Today we took the boys to the playground. That's not exactly groundbreaking news. However, what happened while we were there was unpleasant, to say the least. When we arrived at our usual playground, there was already someone there with their kids. They were from out of town, Florida to be exact. The kids were all on the playground, which is around 100 yards from where you park your car. The Dad was standing next to his car smoking a cigarette. When we walked the boys to the playground, the problems immediately began. There were three kids on the playground when we arrived, all belonging to man with the cigarette. It was like they were heat seeking missiles, all targeting Gavin. The oldest of the three kids said he was 12…

Special time with Gavin

Gavin feel asleep this afternoon, after some time at the playground.  While he was sleeping, my Mom came and got the other two boys. Not sure of Gavin's current condition, we decided to let him sleep. Now that he is awake, I'm thinking we will do something special with just him.  I'm thinking maybe ordering Chinese food, as that's his favorite.  I'll let you all know how it goes. I have partnered with Cards.com to bring you the Autism Awareness prepaid VISA debit card. This card is a great way to show that you are Autism Aware but more importantly, it's a fantastic way to assist your child in transitioning into independent living. How do your kids watch TV?

This is how my kids were watching TV the other day.  The problem is that I couldn't see through them, as they aren't made of glass.  ;-) They felt the need to sit on my lap, while I was trying to watch King of the Hill. Today is take the kids to the playground day

Good morning class.. Our main focus today is going to be getting the kids to the playground.  It's been a really long week, filled with stress and anxiety.  Not only do we want to leave this week on a good note, we also want to begin the new one the same way.  The boys love the playground and we love taking pictures of them on the playground.  Much like chocolate and peanut butter, they just got well together..  :-) We haven't decided which playground to grace with our presence today but the kids have their favorites, so we probably won't venture to far outside of the box. One of the things that we want to do this summer is setup play dates for Elliott.  We figured we could start out…

90% of the time there is a method to the madness

Gavin actually had a really good day.  No tantrums or significant behavioral issues. In fact, he's actually the only one of the three that listened today. Lizze even wanted to reward his good behavior.  :-) It's not that the others boys were a problem, it's just that they are going through a rough transitional period.  They are adjusting to Gavin being home and now school being out for the summer.  Gavin's never really seemed to struggle to much with change.  He kinda carries his world with him, wherever he goes.  This really minimizes the impact of a change or disruption in routine. It's one of the little blessings that we've received, as it makes life easier for him and for us.  Great job today Gavin. Also, I wanted to add…

My kids latest bid to drive me crazy

I love my boys more than anything in the world and because of that love, I feel very comfortable admitting the fact that they can also drive me crazy. Their latest bid to send me over the edge is to talk in letters. What does talking in letters mean? Basically, instead of just saying the words, they spell them out. I think this is payback for all the times that Lizze and I spelled things out before they could read. Instead of saying "can I please have some ice cream", they say it like this "c-a-n i p-l-e-a-s-e h-a-v-e s-o-m-e i-c-e c-r-e-a-m." Now, don't get me wrong, I'm proud that they can do this, in fact, it's actually pretty amazing, especially for Elliott. However, and this is a really big…
