Overslept

We haven't had to set an alarm in the Lost and Tired household for many years.  The boys never and I mean never sleep past 6am. Of course, today would be the exception.  They actually slept until 7:15 am and now we are scrambling to get ready.  Go figure...... Operation Hope: What the heck is going on?

I wanted to take a few minutes and update ya'll as to where we stand when  it comes to Operation Hope. For starters,  Gavin seems to really be doing well at Lizze's parents.  I'm not entirely sure why that is but I do know that the expectations are different there than they are at home.  For one thing, they don't have to worry about his impact on the other boys.  We've always said that life would be very different if Gavin were an only child.  The fact is that he isn't an only child and we have to be very careful when he is around his younger brothers. As far as residential placement goes,  I'm really beginning to feel like it's never going to happen. Gavin needs residential placement for…

Do you ever catch yourself yelling at your #Autistic child?

I was wondering if any of you ever find yourself having to either raise your voice or actually yell at your autistic child? I realize that this may be a sensitive issue for some but I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of of both. Since Gavin's been gone and Elliott's been really struggling, I find myself having to raise my voice to him,  simply to get his attention.  Even worse, when he doesn't listen or flat out refuses to comply, I'm guilty of losing my cool and yelling at him just to get him to stop the whining and do what he's told.  I hate doing that and I'm trying really hard to find my reserve of patience but sometimes it just doesn't happen.  The reason I…

Healthy pancakes for dinner

Tonight for dinner I made healthy pancakes.  The pancakes were whole grain and contained oatmeal, flax, olive oil, free range chicken eggs and milk.  The boys each ate 2 or 3 and I'm pretty happy with that, especially for Elliott.  I'm glad I was able to sneak in some healthy ingredients that the boys wouldn't have eaten otherwise.  :-)

A few hours to ourselves

Emmett was asking to go visit my Mom today so I called and made the arrangements.  I'm going to use the time to get some writing done, while Lizze is going likely get some much needed rest.  I swear that sometimes, this is the only way to actually get anything gone around here.  When the boys are gone, I have no distractions and I can get done what needs to get done.  I love the boys, but I'm really excited for Emmett to be entering kindergarten this fall.  I'll be able to really begin getting unburied.  Hopefully, I can make it to that point.  :-)

#Autism and the art of brushing

One of the most powerful weapons in a special needs parents arsenal is the brush.  When you are raising a child with sensory processing disorder, brushing your child's skin is a really good way to help calm them down and provide good sensory input.  It may seem silly but when you see how well it works, you'll be amazed.  Honestly,  I don't know if this works for everyone but I think it works more often than not.  When Emmett is really having a rough time, we can try to help him through it by brushing his skin.  Typically,  we use a baby hair brush but when your dog chews it up, you can use something similar.  Emmett likes to be brushed in a particular way.  Usually, he likes being given…
