Best seats in the house

I meant to share this earlier today but my site crashed again. :-( For the first few minutes of the movie, we had the theater to ourselves.... Emmett has decided that we need a TV as big as the screen.  Alright Emmett, that's my boy.  :-) This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please forgive any typos. Victory at the movies

We took the boys to see the movie Rise of The Guardians.  Tickets were like one dollar a piece and the seating isn't as comfortable but the movie was magical. Emmett and I saw it a few months ago but Lizze and Elliott hadn't seen yet.  The boys loved it. Lizze loved it. Fun was had by all. :-) This was a complete success and definitely helped the whole cabin fever. The boys even sat through the entire movie and part of the credits. Those of you with kids of the autism spectrum know much of a victory this was.  :-) This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Please forgive any typos. Coping with cabin fever

We've decided to take the boys to see a movie at the dollar movies.  We've all been pinned in the house for almost two weeks now and we're driving each other friggin crazy. Sometimes we have to just force ourselves to do something in order to keep moving forward. #Autism, #Anxiety and Indecision

One of the most frustrating things for both me and my kids alike is their struggle with making decisions. It's like they don't trust that they can make a good choice.  We've learned that we can't ask any open ended questions without causing them undo stress and anxiety.  I can't ask "what do you want for dinner?"  That question will result in the inevitable meltdown because it leave things to open ended and with too many possible choices.  Instead, I need to ask something like "do you want chicken for dinner?"  That is a simple one answer question.  This gets frustrating for me because it seems to make everything take so much longer.  You folks ever deal with this type on anxiety driven indecision? Stir Crazy

Today is one of those really bad pain days for Lizze.  The boys are in a mood because they are still sick. They're  doing the best they can but having autism and being sick is not a fun combination. We haven't been out of the house in over a week, so everyone is going a bit stir crazy. It's going to be a really long day.

Instead of #Autism Awareness we need #Autism Action

One of the things that I have found overwhelmingly frustrating over the past few years is this constant push for Autism Awareness. Don't get me wrong, it's an important thing and I push for it myself. Having said that, I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of awareness and would really like to see some action. It's time to put your money where your mouth is. It's time to stop talking the talk and start walking the walk. Awareness is really important but it's just not enough to really help anyone.  It feels more like lipservice anymore.  It's become so commercialized and like Christmas, it's lost its meaning, at least in my opinion. There are so many things that we can do as both members of society in…

#Autism: Order in the chaos

The are times that I truly don't understand my kids.  Autism can be quite perplexing for a parent. I am no exception to that rule. On one hand, my kids won't eat if their food isn't perfectly aligned. Emmett especially, is extremely picky and likes his food separated. He's refused to eat because his chicken nuggets weren't in a straight line on his plate. Then we have his and Elliott's bedroom. Everyday we clean it and everyday it ends up looking like this all over again. There are times that I'd swear it would be easier to just tear the house down and start over. What confuses me is how this is okay for their toys but not okay for their food. I'm sure there's a reason for it, I…
