I wanted to take a few minutes and let you all know what's going on with Lizze.  To put things simply, she's not doing good at all and I'm really, really worried. Not only is she dealing with a excruciating migraine that has been with her for the last 1.5 years +, she's got fibromyalgia, hypersonic, two bad knees, PTSD and severe depression coupled with extreme anxiety. Unfortunately, to make things unimaginably more difficult, she's also in menopause. Lizze is 32 years old. This whole menopause thing is completely new to me and I'm completely overwhelmed by, which is really sad because she's the one going through it.  They say that some women go through menopause with relative ease and others, not so much.  Well, Lizze apparently falls into the…

I'm always proud of my kids, aways.  However, I'm even prouder, if that's possible, because they did awesome at the cookout. All three of them did absolutely awesome.  We had a small snafu with Gavin but he actually did a really good job keeping himself under control.  We went off by himself and cooled off.  There were of course consequences for his previous actions but he dealt with them and didn't throw a tantrum.  Great job Gavin.  :-) Like I told Gavin today,  we all make mistakes.  It's what we do after them that really matters.  While no part of me even remotely believes Gavin's learned a lesson, the fact that he opted not to freak out, is a victory in and of itself.  We all had a really good…

A bit later on this afternoon, we will be going to my parents house in order to participate in a Memorial Day cookout.  There won't be a large crowd today and the will be plenty of good food. Gavin's been having issues today so I'm not sure how well he's gonna do but we're certainly gonna try. I wanted to open up a discussion on Autism related obsessions or fixations.  I know that some people don't like the word obsession but for many families, obsession is what they are dealing with. Personally, I don't find obsession offensive at all because it accurately describes the behaviors some kids, like mine, exhibit. The way I see it, candy coating things doesn't do anyone any favors because it's basically ignoring the reality of the situation and pretending it's different than what it actually is.  On the other hand, many kids on the Autism Spectrum can be interested in things, without taking it toothed level of obsession. Every holiday, my family faces a dilemma.  Should we celebrate with family and friends, even though out three little ones with Autism will likely pay a price? Should we stay at home and just pay it safe? These are really important questions.  As far as my family is concerned, sometimes we play it safe and other times we through caution to the wind. Everything in life is a gamble, if you really think about it. What do you and your family do for the holidays? Have you found ways to minimize the stress on your child with Autism? Emmett had a really rough day yesterday.  His mouth is really sore and he's still trying to adjust to Gavin moving back home. After a really emotional afternoon, Emmett fell asleep on the couch, next to me.  What helped him to calm down and fall asleep, you ask. Simple.  His snuggle buddy Blue.  Blue is Emmett's cat, whom Emmett has great affection for.  He's really a pretty amazing cat because he tolerates a great deal of less than gentle attention from Emmett. He actually fell asleep snuggling Blue yesterday and I was able to snag these adorable pictures.  Way, way, way too friggin cute.  Am I right?
