We had a change of plans

Lizze and I canceled our Wraparound meeting this morning.  Lizze's back is really sore from 10+ miles she's walked in the last week and Emmett isn't feeling well.  Poor Emmett just can't seem to catch a break.  He's acting very similar to when he's in the middle of a fever flare, only he has no mouth sores and no high grade fever. We are suspecting that we he might be outgrowing this condition (which is expected) and his physical symptoms may be evolving. Anyway, I'm hoping that today is going to be a better day for everyone.  The meeting will be rescheduled and life will go on.  To be completely honest, our plans change more often than they don't.  This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the…

Emmett’s had a rough weekend

Poor Emmett John has had a really rough weekend. On Sunday alone he fell twice on the steps.  The last time he face planted right onto the stair tread and split his lip open.  After Emmett fell asleep last night,  Lizze and I realized that the cut on the outside of his lower lip lines up with the cut on the inside of his lower lip and are suspecting that he actually bit clean through.  Because Emmett was so upset and the bleeding wasn't too bad, we cleaned it and put a bandaid on.  In the morning I'm gonna check it out again and see if it's doing okay. If we are still concerned, we'll visit his doctor and have it checked out.  Honestly though, I'm pretty comfortable that he's…

We need a real life Dr. House

In the morning, we have yet another Wraparound meeting at the boys school. As much as I love our Wraparound team, Lizze and I are seriously considering dissolving it and moving on. We don't seem to be getting anywhere and Gavin's health is getting worse. Right now, Lizze and I are running on very, very limited resources and anything that not working is weighing us down.  Does that make sense? If we decide to pull the plug, it will have nothing to do with not being grateful for everyone's time and effort. It would simply mean that it's just not working out. Truth is, Gavin's mental health has once again taken a back burner to his physical health. Also, I think that are situation is so unique, no one knows…

#Autism: When sensory issues interfere with life

One of the things we struggle with in the Lost and Tired family on an almost daily basis, are sensory issues.  By far, Emmett struggles the most as he has the most sensory processing issues. As long as I can remember, Emmett has had a hard time with things like clothes and especially shoes and socks. These have never really gone away. He does seem to cope better on some days than on others. I think stress has a lot to do with it. He's definitely gotten worse since he's lost occupational therapy. Lately we've been dealing with a lot of problems related to his shoes and socks.  He's always complaining that his socks are "itchy".  We go through the motions of checking and even brushing his foot.  Sometimes it…

Do special needs kids deserve special consideration?

Right now, in the My Autism Help Forums, we have a discussion going on about a child with Aspergers, trying to pass the swim test for the Boy Scouts of America. This child is having a really rough time passing this test and his mother is afraid that he's going to give up.  It seems that the Boy Scouts are reluctant to make accommodations for him.  I don't believe that it's mean spirited.  I think it's more a concern over setting a precedent.  I honestly can't blame them because I could imagine the complaints from other parents about fairness. They are currently working together to try and come up with a solution. This has got me wondering if this type of thing is preventable. I mean, should we have some…

Saying good bye to Spring Break

It's official. The boys go back to school on Tuesday and we say goodbye to Spring Break and hello to the final 9 weeks of school. Before we know it, we will be knee deep in Summer vacation. We have no idea what's going to go on with Gavin for the Summer. I'm hoping to be in a better situation be then, so we can actually do something fun with the boys. Lost and Tired on the state of #Autism Awareness

I wanted to share this video with you all.  I recorded this a few weeks back in preparation for Autism Awareness Month. The video is about 8 minutes and is totally work friendly.  If after watching, you approve, please help me spread this message by sharing it to your social media networks.  I want so badly to help unify as many people as possible, so that as many people as possible feel supported and we can present a united front to the world.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYIbL4wRCfY This site is managed via WordPress for Android, courtesy of the @SamsungMobileUS Galaxy Note 2 by @Tmobile. Operation Hope: Taking back control

I wanted to share the latest update to Operation Hope.  Part of Operation Hope is the Lost and Tired family moving forward.  In order to do that, we have to know that Gavin is in a safe place,  and he is. We have to be able to begin to heal the rest of the family and that's no easy task. A lot of damage has been done and it will take a long time to recover. Having said that, one of the things Lizze and I have to do is try to get our health back.  I'm excited to say that we are doing just that. I want to show you the progress we made today, towards our goal of weight loss, better managed depression and overall health improvement. Lizze…
