Gavin loves to watch movies like Transformers, Harry Potter ect. However, shows like Blues Clues will send him running upstairs. My guess is that it’s a sensory thing. We don’t really understand why but suspect it has something to do with shows like Blues Clues, Dora ect always have a lesson in them. If Gavin perceives someone is going to get into trouble or be embarrassed he freaks out. Even if the show is designed with much younger children in mind. Keep in mind Gavin is emotionally about 3 years old.
I was wondering if anyone could shed so light on this for me? Do any of your kids do anything similar?

Sorry I'm a bit behind on the comments, I just found this blog. I have Sensory Processing Disorder and OCD. I watch those shows with my daughter and though they don't bother me (sometimes other TV shows will bother me), when I see other people being embarrassed my anxiety goes through the roof. Even if I don't know the person, I still get really embarrassed for them. I don't know if it is an SPD thing or not. Then my OCD kicks in and I replay the event all day, sometimes all week. I'm not sure if that is what's specifically bothering him but I can definitely understand him not wanting to watch them.
Thank you for posting. You have given me some valuable insight. You can articulate how you feel when he can't. That actually makes a lot more sense then what he has been able to tell us. So you basicly feel the emotions that the characters on the show are experiencing?

oh my kids love spongebob, and the stuff on NickJr. Max and Ruby, Yo Gabba Gabba, Kai-Lan, Wonderpets but not always their all time favorite though is Spongebob never get enough of it.
Blue Clues, Dora, Micky Mouse ClubHouse……pretty much anything on Nick Jr. and Playhouse Disney will send Matt running up the stairs too. I know that 80% of the reason is because he cant stand the big eyes. You notice how preschool cartoons often have characters with oversized eyeballs? It drives Matt crazy to even have it turned on. But he does like Spongebob. Spongebob has weird eye. But he also has a big head. I think it's the disproportion of the eyes to the head. I know it sounds crazy but its true. He hates all disney cartoons. He has NO interest in traveling to Disney Land. He says. Everytime his aunt wears her Minnie mouse sweatshirt, he won't go within 10 feet of her. Its the eyes. The rest, I think is the music. He hates high pitched introments like zylaphone type music.
mine have a thing about bugs could be in a movie or tv show they hate bugs with a passion not completely sure why. And certain foods they refuse to try due to texture. So I assume the bug thing is a sensory issue.
