It’s been a minute since I’ve updated you guys on how Gavin’s journey into his adult life is going. There’s a few reasons for that but one of them is that not much has changed since the last update.

Gavin was getting overwhelmed by all the changes he was perceiving and wanted everything to slow down. I was not in a good place myself and being able to take a step back helped me find my footing and catch my breath.

At the same time, Gavin was still continuing his job coaching. He meets every week with his job coach to practice interviews, and work on his resume.

Last week Gavin expressed interest in day services again. Day services would give him things to do during the day. There’s social activities and fun outings he can participate in. He can make friends and begin to build a life outside of his immediate family. He needs outside social interactions in his life.

I made the call last week to the provider we decided on and got the ball rolling. I’m waiting on a phone call to schedule the intake meeting. That will hopefully be this coming week. Once the paperwork is signed, it will be about 30 days before he starts day services and that’s okay. I think he needs that time to prepare himself for the change and practice some skills he’ll need to navigate these new social situations.

He feels good about the current status of everything. Knowing that it’s just around the corner is helping him to feel better and because it’s not immediately happening, he’s feeling overwhelmed. That seems like a win win.
