Hello @ClevelandClinic, we’re here for a swallow study

We have finally arrived at our second to last appointment for this week.  Very early in the morning we will get up and make our way to the Cleveland Clinic's main campus. This particular appointment is Lizze's once again and is with radiology.  She will be having a swallow study done to find the reason why she so often chokes while eating.  They explained that her esophagus is really pretty narrow and likely the reason for her choking so often.  They will be doing a barium swallow study to observe the process and better understand if there is a biomechanical problem taking place when she tries to swallow. On the way home, we have to devert to the Cleveland Clinic's Brunswick location to pick up Lizze's special knee brace, before…

What do you do when your 7 year old is losing his hair?

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that Elliott is losing quite a bit of his hair.  He doesn't have any noticeable thin spots.  However, we  I rub his head, I find upto a dozen hairs stuck between my fingers.  I've not said anything Elliott but we spoke with his pediatrician over the phone and he wants to see Elliott next week.  The amount to of hair he's losing is not normal and is likely stress or nutrition related.  Ever since Elliott tree nut allergy surfaced, feeding him has become extremely difficult.  I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that he's deficient in one of more areas. As for the stress theory, it makes sense as he's under an insanely high out of stress. I've been wondering if this is…

Today’s humongous #Autism Victory: The Dentist

I wrote earlier about Emmett's having to visit the dentist this morning. Admittedly I was a bit wary of how this was going to go.  For starters, I'm indescribably terrified of the dentist, so I wasn't sure how much of a supportive Daddy I would be today. Lizze and I were also concerned that because of the need for a cavity fill, it might taint Emmett's view of the dentist.  Prior to today, Emmett loved going to the dentist. That's such a huge huge blessing, we didn't want to ruin that. I am so incredibly excited to report that if there was a brave Daddy award, I would receive it. If there was an award for bravest most awesome kid, that would without question go to Emmett John. I'm so…

Would you face your worst fear for your child?

Today is going to be a personally, challenging day for me as I face one of my worst fears, in order to be there for one of my kids. Emmett has a cavity that must be filled, it's likely the result of damage done to his tooth from opening his supply with his teeth.  It's the exact same tooth that Elliott broke by the same means.  As I have spoken about before, I have a indescribable fear of the dentist.  Without going into the details, because I'm already freaked out enough, I've experienced several traumatic things at a very young age, all involving my teeth and the dentist. Some where very painful and others have resulted in reoccurring nightmares. Anyway, this has become a phobia of sorts for me and…

I’m feeling a bit under the weather

I know ow this is perfect timing but I think I'm getting sick. My throat has been hurting since yesterday morning. I'm  currently lying on the couch because I can't sleep and Emmett had a bad dream, which resulted in him climbing into bed with us.  Goodnight all.  I'm going to try to fall asleep and make the most of the time I have before I begin the coming day. I noticed something fascinating about my son with #Autism

So I noticed something peculiar about Gavin the other day. Every location Gavin was at, he left his mark.  I didn't notice it at first and by the time that I noticed it, I only got these two pictures. Gavin's leaving the words Sonic X  somewhere, wherever he goes. It's like he's tagging his territory  or something.  :-) I'm going to be paying closer attention while I'm with him to see if this was a one day occurrence or if there is more going on. He's not hurting anyone and I just find this fascinating.  I'm not even sure if he realized he did this.  Any of your kids do something like this? WTF…… Seriously? Are you friggin kidding me?

OMG, today have been a trying day.  As you know, Lizze had her appointment with Orthopedics at the Cleveland Clinic this afternoon.  She's been having problems with her knees for many years, steaming from a major injury during years as a gymnast.  We are in desperate need of a break from bad news.  It's kinda like bad news and good news are divorced parents that can't seem to ever come to terms with anything.  They completely ignore the visitation schedule that states that we want to see the good news along with the bad. Unfortunately, that's not what happens in our lives.  So here's what went down today. I swear I couldn't make this shit up if I tried. :-( This morning, Lizze got another email from her new OB/GYN…

Orthopedics at The @ClevelandClinic in Medina: Arrival and Xrays

It feels like life is conspiring against us anymore. We left for Lizze's appointment with orthopedics at the Cleveland Clinic in more than enough time to get there. However, it took us a good 30 minutes just to get outside of Canton.  Traffic on 77 N, the main interstate in Northeast Ohio, was completely backed up and we couldn't even get to the on ramp. I had to take a bunch of back roads and get out of the city before trying to jump on 77 N a few miles down the road. Unfortunately, I wasn't the only one to come up with this brilliant plan and so traffic was a nightmare the entire time.  We eventually made it and weren't too terribly late, in fact, we actually weren't late…
