Behind the pain

I wanted to take a minute and update you all on how Lizze is doing.  She has decided to put her pain rehabilitation on hold. She has very personal reasons for that but basically one of her aunts is very, very ill and Lizze is really struggling with that, as we all are. At this point in time, she's not in the right frame of mind to take on something as intense as pain rehab. For the record, I support this decision because she only gets one shot at this.  Right now, her place is at home and spending as much time with her aunt as God will allow. Unfortunately, Lizze's is in a great deal of pain.  Her current doctors don't seem to want to manage her medications anymore.…

How to foster independence

I wanted to share something with you that I found to be really beneficial to my kids. I do my best to allow my kids to get as much hands on experience with life as possible. Take a look at the pictures below and you'll see what I mean.   :-)

Saying goodbye to adderall…

The Lost and Tired family will be saying goodbye to adderall. Elliott has only been on it for about 2 months, however, he's already not eating and is continuing to lose weight. Adderall is something that can be stopped on a dime and discontinued.  We will discontinue this beginning today and get in touch with his psychiatrist and pediatrician as well. They need to be kept in the loop and up to date otherwise they can't do their jobs.  The nutritionist is concerned because he's losing weight and hasn't grown in the last year. We are not in panic mode but this is something that we have to address and bottom line, he needs to be taking in more calories. However, that's easier said than done.

Lost and Tired plans for 2013

The approach that I have taken with Lost and Tired is why I think it's so successful.  I don't believe in telling people how to do things. I think that everyone's situation is different. There may be similarities but also differences. I'm a huge proponent of simply sharing ones experience and allowing others to take from it what they may. The way I see it is, I'm Lost and Tired, who am I to tell you that to do.  Having said that, I also believe in leading by example. I like to share with you all what has worked for my family and what hasn't.  What this does is present information that you can use to put something together that works for you family or situation. By bringing everyone together…

Grocery shopping for your child with food allergies

Meeting with the Nutritionist today was very informative.  There is a lot that we are doing right and quite a bit we need to address.  Elliott is losing weight and we need to address that.  The problem is that he is anxious, depressed and has aspergers with a plethora of sensory issues.  Getting him to eat on a good day is hard enough.  However, enter a serious food allergy and now meal times become even more of a challenge than they already were.. We hit the grocery store on the way home, armed with knowledge and a wealth of new information. All I can say at this point is holy crap. This isn't going to be easy or cheap. I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed at the moment.

Meeting the Nutritionist at @AkronChildrens Hospital: The waiting game

We actually arrived early.  Anyone with kids, let alone special needs kids, knows that can often times be a a victory in and of itself. The boys are sitting and being entertained by their respective 3DS's. Elliott is really nervous about meeting the Nutritionist today.  He was begging us not to take him today and promised that he would start eating again.  We explained that this is more for Mommy and Daddy but he is afraid of all doctors. Hopefully we will make it through this untraumatized.

Picking up the pieces, moving forward and finding balance

One of the big things that we have to do as a part of Operation Hope is trying to get our lives back together. Of all the things that we have to accomplish and all the challenges that must be met, the most difficult for me is picking up the pieces and moving forward. I realize that may sound a bit cliche but it is what it is.  Trying to get our lives in track is no easy task.  In fact, at times I feel it's impossible.  I so desperately want to be free from all the baggage we've collected over the years.  I want to see the boys happy and healthy. I want to be caught up on our bills and dramatically improve our living environment. However, to do…
