Do you ever get frustrated with your kids? I sure as hell do.  Getting frustrated is part of parenting and something that's just part of the special needs parenting package, at least for me.  Tonight the boys hung out with Lizze's parents.  When I went out to greet them as they pulled up, Gavin immediately began telling me that he had a stomachache, "because I drank too much liquid".  What the hell does that mean? The only thing he's allowed to drink, per doctors orders, is water.  He's allowed 2.5 liters of water per day.  It's been this way for over a year now. As an Autism parent and advocate, I find myself frustrated that we (Autism Community) can't seem to get along with each other. That’s not to say that no one ever gets along.  It's just that I still witness quite a bit of fighting amongst ourselves because we don't see eye to eye. I've never been one to cram my beliefs down anyone's throat but I feel very strongly about this and wanted make my voice heard. There are times that I get really, really frustrated with Gavin because he just doesn't listen.  One of the things that has become an daily struggle is the way he eats.  Gavin inhales his food.  Tonight I gave him a plateful of chicken nuggets for dinner and he literally was done before I could finish passing out dinner to the other kids. I'm so tired of constantly telling him to slow down.  Supposedly, this is typical of people with Autonomic Dysfunction because the moment food hits their stomach, they become incredibly sleepy. The faster they eat, the more they can get in before sleep overwhelms them. We had to go to my parents house to let the dog out while they were out today. The first thing the kids do is take advantage of the cable TV and turn on Phineas and Ferb. So Elliott's working on his first ever book report. He choose rondos his report on hedgehogs. When we visited the Cleveland Zoo this summer, they had a hedgehog that he could pet. He became smitten. :-) We took him to the  library to get a few books on hedgehogs and he's been reading over them. Part of this project requires that he draw a hedgehog as well as cut it out and use it for a visual. This is a picture of the magic happening. Elliott drew some really cute hedgehog pictures. I don't know about your kids but mine don't seem to be getting along this morning.  In fact,  they are acting more like warring factions than brothers.  I suppose this is normal, at least to some extent but that doesn't exactly make it easier to cope with. They just seem to be pushing each others buttons today and I'm not entirely sure why. Perhaps they are trying to drive me insane? Maybe they smell my weakness and sense my fear?
