Please Sponsor Team Lost and Tired as we walk 5k for the Autism Society of Greater Akron

This is a bit last minute but so much of our lives are lived that way anyway. :-) We have formed Team Lost and Tired and are collecting donations and even new teammates as we take this journey to assist and support a fantastic organisation. This coming Saturday, June 15th, the Lost and Tired family, along with friends and family, will be walking 5k to raise money for the Autism Society of Greater Akron. This is not a walk for Autism Speaks. All the money raised stays within the local community to help those with Autism and their families. I know that times are tough but if you are in a position to help raise money by donating even $1, that would be amazing. We're a bit behind the 8 ball…

Parents’ fear of vaccinations nearly killed their son

A message from Lost and Tired: When you read this, please keep in mind that the sole purpose of me reblogging this is to show that the decision to vaccinate your child or not to vaccinate your child is not easy. by any means. This is one family's story of choosing not to vaccinate and paying a very, very heavy price as a result. On the flip side, there are families out there that vaccinate their child, in a bid to do the right thing and their child is injured by the vaccine that was supposed to protect them. When you consider the shear amount of people vaccinated each year, vaccine injury is not common but it does happen. There are risks associated with both choices and it's so incredibly…

The never ending transportation saga: Big Update

I wanted to update all of you on what I found out about our van.  I met up with my Dad tonight and we pulled the codes.  Turns out the issue is that cylinder 3 is misfiring. From what I'm being told, if the engine is misfiring, the transmission won't shift correctly. This is good news because it's very likely that this can be fixed with a simple tune up.  Simple is actually the wrong word to use because it's actually extremely complicated. Some of the spark plugs are on the back of the engine block and there's no way to get to them without tearing a whole lot of stuff off in order to get access. Interesting fact, that little yellow like means there is a problem with the…

Child Protective Services Investigation: Update 6/11/2013

You know, I guess there really isn't much to report at this point, no pun intended.  Having said that, I have been thinking a lot about this while thing.  I have an ongoing poll right now, trying to get an idea of how many people have been through something similar to us. Check out the stickied post on the top of my home page a cast your vote.  It's interesting and by interesting, I mean sad or even scary. So far, we'll over a hundred people have voted in the poll and it show that an overwhelming amount of people, have had CPS called on them for fictitious reasons. Even sadder is that fact that almost half of those that answered yes, also said they've had this happen more than…

How many of you can relate to this?

King of the Hill is my all time favorite TV show.  The pilot episode is among my favorites.  This episode is about someone calling CPS on the Hills without having any idea of what was actually going on.  :-) Sound familiar? This is dedicated to everyone that has had CPS called on them for no reason at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlkEZfdDEnw&feature=youtube_gdata_player This site is managed almost exclusively via WordPress for Android. Please forgive any typos as autocorrect HATES me. ;-) Follow @Lost_and_Tired Visit the My Autism Help Forums To reach me via email, please Contact Me

Unbelievable……I just can’t win

I don't know what else to say but somebody must hate us.  As if there wasn't already enough going on, it appears that the transmission on the van has gone out..... again. If you've followed our story for the last 2 years, you are probably cringing right now because you know what this mean for us. We bought a van, two years ago and within the first year, we were forced to dump $8,000+ into it, just to keep it running.  We were swindled and it's my fault for trusting the guy that sold us the van. We basically chased the repairs around.  We justified the repairs because the body was literally perfect and we honesty didn't know what else to do. We basically had the engine rebuilt and the…

What to do when someone is being mean or hurtful to your child with #Autism

We've had quite a few new experiences lately and not all pleasant ones.  If you read my previous post, you know that Gavin was the target of a very mean spirited child yesterday while on the playground. I'm not sure if that qualifies as bullying but the kids was, for lack of a better word, a jerk. He targeted Gavin for being different and made fun of him for being unable to do things on the playground well. My question to you is this. How do you handle situations in which your child is being made fun of for being different? What have you done in the past? When this happens, if your child even aware that they are being victimized? In Gavin's case, he was completely oblivious to what…

We return to the @ClevelandClinic this week

Contrary to popular belief, we actually do take our kids to the doctors, in fact, we are actually scheduled to return to the Cleveland Clinic this Wednesday.  :-P See, I'm reaching a point that I can sometimes joke about this whole CPS crap. Anyway, Gavin will be seen by the urologist because of bladder control issues.  His autonomic specialist wants to rule out any sort of physical bladder problems before considering that this is part of the autonomic dysfunction. Gavin will have an xray and ultrasound done on his bladder, just prior to the appointment. This will provide lots of information. This will likely be an awkward appointment because of its sensitive nature. Unfortunately, this is just another stop on the journey to figure out what is going on with…
