Last minute preparations for our trip

Lizze and I spent a large part of Wednesday, running errands and collecting some of the things we need in order to leave Friday morning. One of the things we made sure to do was get all the boys new headphones. This one act will provide an added layer of sanity for the fifteen hour drive. 😉 Today is our last day to get ready before we leave and it's going to be a busy one. Lizze has an appointment first thing in the morning. After that, we're going to be heading to pick up a few things for Maggie, before taking her to the kennel. The boys said goodbye to her prior to leaving for school. We figured it would be easier on Maggie to streamline this process as…

Things I’m doing to be ready for @VivintHome tomorrow

We've made some good progress on the house. We still have a ways to go but we should be ready in time for Vivint to arrive for our appointment tomorrow. There are a few things that we need to make sure are done, prior to the techs arrival. The biggest is that they have clear access to everything they need to work on. This means access to all monitored windows and doors. We need to make sure that the tech can get into the basement, as well as everywhere we have cameras, smoke alarms, CO2, flood and freeze detectors. One of the bigger things we were going to do was add the additional outdoor camera. Unfortunately, while Gavin and I were prepping the location, we stumbled across a hornet nest.…

@VivintHome is helping us prepare for my son’s Wish Trip

With my family scheduled to leave at the end of the month in order to have Gavin's wish of seeing Legoland granted, there are many things we must to do to prepare. There's the planning for the physical trip, the drive time, stops for food and bathroom breaks. We have to plan snacks and activities to keep the kids occupied for the fifteen hour drive. Something that might not be the first thing that comes to mind when making preparations, is making sure we secure our house before leaving. In order to do that, Vivint Home is coming out next Friday to go through the house and make sure all of our equipment is functioning properly. They will be installing the new panel I've had for a few weeks now…

Unboxing the @VivintHome Glance

I want to give you guys a first look at the new Vivint Glance. It's the new panel from Vivint Home. This will be setup as a secondary panel, but it won't be mounted. The idea is to have a panel that can be moved if need be. The internal battery lasts about four hours. I will be having this installed soon. It's so new that the local install techs didn't have stock yet, so Vivint drop shipped it to me direct. I'll do a full review once it's installed. For now, here's an unboxing video for the Glance. ☺ https://youtu.be/0C4cMGIor5Y

The amazing ways @VivintGivesBack can help special needs families

As you probably already know, I've been working with the Vivint Gives Back Foundation for the better part of two years. If you've been following our story from the Lost and Tired days, you know that I don't work with many companies, and that's by choice. What makes Vivint Gives Back different, is that they are actually doing things to help special needs families, particularly those who have wandering children. Vivint Home is a company that specializes in both Smart Home and Security technologies. They have created technology that can help you monitor your kids, and limit their ability to exit the house on their own. You will be notified immediately should your child let themselves out of the house. Smart cameras can notify you if your child gets up in the…

Using the @VivintHome app to automatically make sure your doors are locked

While this will apply to anyone using a Vivint Smart Home, this is aimed at Auto families. As Autism parents, we very often have to go to great lengths to ensure the safety of our kids on the Spectrum. If you are one of the many families using the Vivint Smart Home system, provided to special needs families through The Vivint Gives Back Foundation, this video is for you. In this short, Family friendly video, I will show you how to setup a custom action that checks to make sure your exterior doors are locked at any given time. This is very useful if someone forgets to lock the door. The system will check the doors at the time specified, and lock any that are unlocked. Requirements for this to…

How the Vivint Smart Home app works

I want to take a minute and share a video I put together to show how I use the Vivint Smart Home app to manage my home. Please understand that I have limited resources in which to make this video with, so forgive me there.   It's also important to understand that while this will work for any family out there, I'm directing this more to the Autism community.   As Autism parents, we need to take advantage of any tools available to help us raise our kids and keep them safe. Life is always going to be tough, but at least we can leverage technology to help us make some areas more manageable. Perhaps even gain some peace of mind.   The video below shows how the Vivint Smart…
