This week just became more stressful

This week has gotten insanely crazy. The last 2 days have been incredibly stressful but not for any reason you'd ever suspect. I was letting the dog out last night and I found a subpoena taped to my font door. I have been subpoenaed to be a State's witness in a very serious trial. I was completely caught off guard and I was required to be in the courthouse in standby for at least a week waiting to testify. This took place shortly before Lizze left last year and I think I talked about it then. Anyway, I'm not directly involved at all. I have to be 3 places at once

The boys have school today and I have four meetings before mid-afternoon. I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to pull all of this off just yet but I'm hoping for cooperation. I fully expect to be inturrupted but I'm not sure what else I can do. I have to be in three places at once. Emmett got into his first two classes but is having issues getting into his next two classes. I'm working with the school to trouble shoot and I know it's going to require my attention while I'm scheduled to do something else. While I was scrambling to help Emmett, Elliott decided to close his eyes between classes and I didn't know that. By the time I figured that out, he'd missed 15 minutes of his…

A quick update on remote learning and working from home

I was thinking this would be our first full week back at their old school but that won't be until next week due to the holiday. Elliott went back today and Emmett is back tomorrow. I think I already shared that Elliott goes to school Monday - Thursday. Emmett goes Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's already been a more positive experience than the previous online setup. Elliott is getting much more interaction with his teachers and friends. Emmett's in the same boat. I've overheard Elliott being very involved in class and talking with everyone, much the same way he would if he was physically present. Emmett has been working on assignments on his off days and seems to be doing quite well. Remote learning means you can sometimes do your…

The Did You Knows of Autism (Assumptions)

I've not shared one of these in a long time but I'd like to get back into the habit of doing so. The Did You Knows of Autism are short, shareable, easily digested facts related to autism. Sometimes they're about parenting or other educational tidbits of information based on my personal experience. Other times they're related to quashing stereotypes. Either way, they're always meant to be positive and designed to be shared. The point is to share information so that people can better understand and relate to what autism families experience. My thoughts

I feel pretty good about today

Emmett's first day of school wasn't as smooth as Elliott's but it went okay. The main issue was that we didn't get his information until this morning. Not a huge deal because he was still able to get some assignments done and turned in. It's a three day weekend and we are back at it on Tuesday of next week. I shutdown for a little bit today because I had a massive headache and I'm grateful the kids allowed me to close my eyes for a little while. I'm so stressed out and my head was pounding. I don't like taking a nap while the kids are active but as they get older, they're much more independent. The plan for the day was to get some work done and have…

Gavin’s labs came back and it’s mostly good news

Let me start out by stating that I'm absolutely overwhelmed. The last few weeks have been incredibly challenging for me. The last 2 weeks in particular, have been much worse because I've been so worried about Gavin's health. I have an update for you but not really an explanation because I don't know that we really have one at this time. After an enormous amount of frustration, glitches with MyChart, and long phone conversations with the always amazing people at Akron Children's Hospital, I was finally able to get the results from his recent labs. Gavin spent his hurry up and wait time working in his 5D art stuff. ☺ The headache it took to make that happen is due in part to unusual circumstances, HIPPA and technical problems. That…

Some of Gavin’s labs are coming in and they’re still very concerning

It's been an emotionally exhausting day. I spent most of today trying to keep myself focused on the things I have control over. Unfortunately, there's a great deal that I have no control over and that sucks. I was very consumed with waiting on Gavin's lab results to come back from yesterday's repeat lab work. You can read the back story here. About 10 am this morning, part of the results came back and unfortunately, they haven't improved. I'm still waiting for the results containing his immunoglobulin levels because that's the big one. It stands to reason that we're likely looking at those results very concerning results being verified. As it stands, we are looking at another day before we get those results back and I can't explain just how…

Quick Update On Gavin’s Condition

It's been a long stressful day but when is it not, right? I wanted to drop a quick update on Gavin's situation because I have some news. After a many phone calls and several attempted workarounds, Gavin's new lab orders were faxed to Akron Children's Hospital. By the time we got there, it was pushing 1pm. Gavin did great, as usual and we're currently waiting in the results. It's frustrating because I hate waiting, especially considering the stakes but hopefully, by the time you read this, we'll have some answers. Not much else to say at this point because today has been consumed with getting this addressed. I told you it would be quick.
