The transition home hasn’t gone as expected

The boys seem to be adjusting to being home pretty well. That's a bit surprising because we thought it would be a rough transition. They're getting along well and for the most part, are having a low key kind of day. We chose to keep them home from school today because after an eighteen hour drive, they needed to have time to decompress. They actually had school, even though it's a holiday. Frankly, I'm not a huge fan of celebrating Columbus Day anyway and I support the kids not having the day off. We just wanted them to have a day to get back into their routine and the school didn't have a problem with that at all. Poor Elliott wasn't able to sleep the entire drive home, all of…

It’s been a roller-coaster of emotions this morning

The van has been returned and I'm super sad. It was an amazing van and it's tough to go back to driving anything else. At the same time, we picked up Maggie from the kennel and now I'm really happy. It's not like I can drive Maggie around town like I could that 2016 Toyota Sienna, but I can snuggle the Sienna like I can Maggie.. Seems like a fair trade... ☺ https://youtu.be/lWkvcgKEuW0

It’s a very important day

I had a rough time sleeping last night it was up about 7 AM anyway. I'm really excited to go pick up Maggie from the kennel and bring her home. We also have to return the van this morning as well. My main goal for today is to simply unpack and get back to life. We were too tired yesterday and frankly, today isn't much better but we want to keep moving forward. ☺

Our final day and the Castle of Miracles

I meant to share this the other night but our return trip didn't go as planned and I didn't have time. The very last thing we did at Give Kids the World Village before departing for home was to have a star for Gavin placed within the Castle of Miracles. Each wish child gets this little star and they are supposed to sign and decorate it. They will then leave it at the Castle of Miracles and while they're sleeping, a fairy comes and places the star on the ceiling of the castle. Walking into the Castle of Miracles and seeing how many stars are on the ceiling is simply breathtaking. Each star represents one wish child that has stayed in the Village and the number is far too numerous…

We picked up a hitch hiker on our trip

The whole time I was driving home from Florida, I kept feeling something climbing on me but never saw what it was. I sorta thought it was my imagination after awhile and I dismissed it. While I was cleaning the van out after we got home, I found what had been climbing on me throughout the drive home. Turns out I wasn't going crazy. lol

We’re finally home

Hello everyone. We finally made it home from Florida, after a long drive. Both Elliott and Emmett have gotten sick and as a result, we had to cut our stay in Charlotte, NC short. The boys wanted to get home as soon as possible because they were miserable. I'm hoping that they feel better soon but it doesn't look like they will make it to school on Monday. Before closing this post off, I truly want to say thank you to Wishes Can Happen for making Gavin's wish come true. We really can't adequately express our gratitude for the kindness extended. This was truly a once in a lifetime experience and it was amazing. I encourage everyone looking to make a contribution to something positive to both check out and…

Sea World: Day 6 @GKTWVillage

They say time flies when you're having fun and it's true. We've been at Give Kids the World for six days now and we're leaving to make our way home in the morning. On our final day here, we decided to go to Sea World. While I have some fundamental issues with Sea World, the kids may never have a chance to experience something like this again. The Sea World close to us is no longer open and honestly, having seen the documentary Blackfish, I'm not too upset about that. This was actually the first sunny day we've had since arriving here in the sunshine state. lol Not only was it sunny, it was hot and humid as well. The boys were not liking the weather at all. We did…

I’m ready to get back to my imperfect life

We've been gone for a week. That's seven days longer than we've ever been gone before. It's been an amazing experience and I've enjoyed every single minute of it. Having said that, I'm ready to get home. I'm ready to see Maggie and get back to our imperfect life. I truly miss our imperfect life. We're going to be leaving in the morning and making our way back to Ohio. I have roughly two, eight hour drives between me and my house. I'll be sad leaving Give Kids the World because it's absolutely amazing here, but it's time to part ways and get back to the real world. When you're living inside the walls of Give Kids the World, it's like the real world is kept at bay. All the…
