This was once my worst fear

It’s hard to believe that we’ve been dealing with COVID for almost 3 years now. So much has changed during this time. COVID has become a part of everyday life that it’s even been incorporated into our favorite TV shows as well. I’m still not used to that one. LOL If you’ve been reading for a while, you know how hard I worked to shield the boys and I from the pandemic. Gavin is immunocompromised, Elliott has asthma, and even though Emmett and I don’t have anything that really puts us at greater risk, we still didn’t want it. Elliott ended up testing positive earlier this year and that was our first bout with COVID in our house. Everyone else managed to avoid it at the time. Fast forward to…

I’m definitely feeling rough this morning

I'm definitely feeling rough this morning. No two ways about it. I'm not as bad as I have been after previous doses of the COVID vaccine but it's not fun. I'm up and got the dogs out, have my meds ready to take after I eat, and I'm starting the day with the knowledge that the podcast has cracked the top 200 kids and family related podcasts in the country on Chartable. I'm pretty stoked about that and it's motivation to keep pushing forward. My goal is to get way inside the top 100 and I'm well on my way, thanks to all my listeners. Emmett was up all night again because he couldn't sleep. He was doing so good for so long, and I'm not sure what happened. I…

Guess who didn’t have school again today?

Guess who didn't have school again? That's right, Emmett. Why didn't he have school again? COVID. More specifically, so many staff members are sick with COVID, they had to close the building for the second day in a row. Hopefully, they will be back on Wednesday. My thoughts and prayers are with the staff members. I hope everyone recovers quickly and safely. I love everyone at the school and I wish them nothing but the best. I do find myself frustrated and a little angry because I'm not sure what we expect to happen when we're trying to force school, in the middle of a pandemic, with no statewide mask or vaccine mandates. There are still unvaccinated people in the building and that puts everyone at risk, especially with Omicron…

I’m so tired of COVID

COVID is wearing thin. I'm so grateful that the boys and those closest to me have remained healthy. I'm greatful that I have remained healthy as well. That being said, I'm so tired of having to deal with all this insanity. This morning, Elliott and Emmett were unable to go to school. Elliott woke up with a headache and Emmett had a sore throat. Before COVID Elliott would have taken some motrin and Emmett would have toughed it out. In the advent of COVID, more specifically the Delta and Omicron variants, any symptoms are considered COVID until proven otherwise. Testing is all but impossible because tests are unavailable, testing sites are insane, and frankly the at home tests are unreliable. I called the school and the current policy is that…

Third times a charm

The last couple of days have been rather busy for me. I've been dealing with side effects from my covid booster. Nothing major. In fact, it's been easier this time around but I'm getting hit with fatigue. I'm tired all the time and sleeping doesn't really make it better. Again, it's better than COVID and I'm grateful to have access to such an effective vaccine. I took Gavin to get his booster this morning. He did great and so far, his only issue is a sore arm. I do expect him to be under the weather for the next day or two but maybe he won't experience any side effects and I'd be more than okay if that were the case. Emmett's been having a difficult couple of days so…

The first week of school is behind us and a few other updates

The first full week of school has come and gone. It didn't go as planned but we adapted. Elliott had a great week and he really seems to like high school. Emmett on the other hand ended up having almost the entire week off due to the excessive heat. The grade school doesn't have AC and the heat index inside the school was over 100F. That's obviously a problem, so they called things of with hopes of returning on Monday. Elliott has AC in his building but it's still hot. Both boys have informed me about the mask policies in their respective buildings and I'm not feeling super comfortable with it. While they are sitting at their desk, they don't have to wear a mask. This tweet from today is…

Transitions Suck

I had a really early start to my day and it was totally worth it. Sometimes I need some motivation to get up earlier than I would otherwise, but I'm always glad I did. I want to start my days eariler whenever I can. That's a goal going forward. The school year has officially begun and we got off without a hitch. Both boys are masked and vaccinated. Please do the same as soon as it becomes available. Let's keep each other and our families safe. Starting a new school year isn't nearly as stressful as it once was but that doesn't mean it's stress free, because it's not.  As the kids have gotten older and gained more independence, I don't need to be as heavily involved as I…

Being a single parent is tough but I’m feeling accomplished today and here’s why

It's been a fantastic day and while it wasn't perfect, I feel like it definitely belongs in the win column. The rest of my labs finally came back in, everything is perfect, and I'm grateful. I wasn't really worried but I'm not a huge fan of the unknown. I saw my doctor this week and she was really proud of me. She says I'm going great and to keep it up. That felt really good because it's been a journey to get where I am. Don't get me wrong, I still have room for improvement, for for the moment I'm celebrating the victory. I spent the morning working on some freelance stuff and next weeks podcast episode. I think it will be next week anyway. I'm on somewhat of a…
