Taking what we can get, when we can get it and being grateful

The boys will be going swimming this afternoon. Grandma is picking them up and taking them to visit family with an in ground pool. This means that Lizze and I will be getting a little break this afternoon.

One of the things we’ve learned from our time apart is that we have to focus on ourselves because it’s so incredibly easy to lose yourself in fighting for, raising and protecting your child with Autism.  It’s 25/8/366 and yes I realize that might not make sense to some but if you’re an Autism parent, you probably get where I’m coming from.

Anyway, we will be getting some time to ourselves this afternoon.  It’s only a few hours but it’s a few hours that we can simply exhale and relax for a little bit.

It’s a few hours where we can regroup and recoup. It’s something that every single Autism or Special Needs parent deserves but sadly, so few get.

The short breaks are never taken for granted because we never know when the next one will be. It’s so important to take what we can get, when we can get it.
