Our first day back after Christmas break

The boys had a great first day back at school, at least as far as remote learning is concerned. Emmett is feeling very motivated this quarter and that’s a very positive thing. He brought his grades up two letter grades in the second quarter and I’m so proud of him. I even brought him a cup of hot chocolate cause the house was a little cold this morning. We try to keep the house a little cooler cause it’s easier on the gas bill.

He apparently has started drinking hot chocolate with a straw.

Elliott had a great first day back as well. He’s not super motivated but he’s got a good attitude and I’m happy for that. All things considered, that’s all I can ask for.

It’s a short week because they had Monday off and only go Monday thru Thursday every week. So, it’s a short week.

Aside from getting the kids back to school, it was a relatively quiet day and as I always say, I’m okay with that. Quiet days are always welcome in my house and they are few and far between so when they come around, they’re totally appreciated.

As for myself and Gavin, we both had decent days as well. Gavin did Gavin all day and nothing out of the ordinary. I was able to get some work done and while I didn’t accomplish everything I needed to, I made progress and that’s good enough for now.

I’ve been talking to the kids about what changes we need to make to our lives to make 2021 better than 2020. I have my own goals but I want to know what the kids would like to see happen. They’re not very hopeful that this year is going to be better. I share many of the same concerns but I want them to focus on the things we have control over and not the ones we don’t.

We can’t control COVID and it’s likely to drag on into 2022. This is going to be a rough year and that’s just the reality we’re all living in. That doesn’t mean we can’t still have a better year. It doesn’t mean that we can’t still keep building forward. We will be limited but there’s still plenty we can work on. My goal is to be in the best place we’ve ever been in as we exit this COVID nightmare.

Right now, my focus is on getting the kids into a better daily routine. I need to get ready for the next season of the podcast, as it should launch in February. I have some advertising and sponsorship deals to work out. I also need to have someone design new cover art. I’m thinking about checking out some freelance artists and see if they can create something awesome. I usually design everything on my own but I think I need to have someone else do it.

Anyway, for the moment I’m going to camp out and watch the Georgia elections because so much is riding on flipping it Blue. I’m a little bit distracted by this.

I hope you all have a great night. Please stay safe and stay home if at all possible. 🙂
