Spent time with family today

We had a nice time with my in-laws today for New Year's dinner.  Everyone behaved and dinner was really good.  I'm pretty sure that I'm still well under my calorie goal for today and that feels awesome. I had a tiny scoop of ice cream for dessert and that was it.  ☺ My goal is to get some time on the treadmill tomorrow and keep moving forward with my fitness goals.

Does anyone have experience with their kids pulling their hair out?

Apparently, I spoke too soon when I said that Gavin was having a good day because something has once again come to light.  At some point between the time Gavin woke up this morning and now, he's been plucking the hairs on his goatee to the point where I had to make him shave it all off.  I don't think we've seen this in at least a few months but he's very much back at it today. I know he pulls hair from other places also and I don't make it a habit of checking at all.  The only time I know it's a problem is when I see him doing this to his facial hair. When his goatee comes in, it comes in very thick and dark. As a…

The boys are having a good day

It's business as usual today. We welcomed in a new year in and thus far have had a pretty good day. The boys are in pretty good moods today and that's always a good thing. Gavin is very talkative and exceptionally clumsy today.  Everywhere he goes, he's either dropping things or knocking something over. I'm not sure what's going on with him right now but I'm hoping it's just an off day for him. We are going to Lizze's parents for an early New Years dinner. I don't want to make it a late night because I'm tired and we have to get them back into their routine before school starts back in in a few days.

That was awesome or was it?

Emmett couldn't fall asleep last night until well after midnight. Maybe it was the excitement of the new year? Maybe it was all the gunshots being fired off throughout the night? Who knows.... We reached a point where the only way to get him to fall asleep was for me to camp out in the living room with him. Needless to say, it was a long night. Rather than focus on the fact I rung in the new year on the couch, I'm choosing to look at this as I rung in the new year hanging out with my son.. ☺

Important year end message to my readers

2016 has been a tumultuous year for The Autism Dad family, full of ups and downs. I began the year as a single father raising the boys on my own and have ended it with my family whole once again. :-) It's always so difficult for me to put together a year in review posts because there's always so much that happens and deciding what makes the cut is tough. I never know what to say that I haven't already said a million times before. For this particular entry, I'm going to try something a little different. Rather than try and list the important things that have happened, I'm simply going to share a few things I've learned this year. 2016 was a year of amazing growth for me as a person. Unfortunately,…

An unbelievable Amazon Echo Fail (NSFW)

This has been making the rounds since last night. This little kid is trying to get Alexa to do something good and she totally misinterpreted what he said.  This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen and I'm pretty sure you will die laughing. This may not be the best video to play at work but it's totally innocent and it just shows how technology isn't perfect..  ☺  https://youtu.be/r5p0gqCIEa8

A Desperately Needed Break

The boys are at their Grandparents tonight and Lizze, and I have the night to ourselves. Before the kids left, and it was a rougher day. It wasn't the worst ever by far, but it was tough nonetheless. Lizze and I are just taking it easy tonight. We picked up some dinner and watched some Netflix. I worked on some blog/work related things and Lizze worked on some art stuff. It's nice just to have some peace and quiet. Truthfully, TV was just some background noise. As weird as it sounds, the house was too quiet, and TV was just the right amount of background noise to make us feel more comfortable. We worked on our respective projects and just talked. It was a relaxing night. Nights like these help…

I’m getting worried

I'm concerned that Gavin is slipping a bit farther than he has before. He's  really struggling with even basic problem solving skills. Here's just the latest example of what I'm worried about. Gavin received a new pair of comfy pants to wear to bed or around the house. After trying them on, he came downstairs and told me that they don't fit him. He went on to explain that they were so tight, he couldn't even pull them up past his knees.  Confused by this, I asked to see them because Grandma's never wrong when it comes to the kids sizes.  When he brought them over to me, I noticed right away why they were too tight. The drawstring was tied and that's why the waist and that's why they didn't…
