Why getting my youngest with #Autism to school is so exhausting

Remember last night when I said that I suspected Emmett was going to have a difficult time this morning? That turned out to be the understatement of the year. Emmett was beside himself all morning long. Lizze and I tried forever to help him through whatever emotional hurdle was in his way but we didn't manage to do that. We did however, manage to get him to agree to go with me and talk to his teachers. In order to further redirect his attention away from his anxieties, I picked up donuts while getting gas on our way to school. We ended up being thirty minutes late but we made it. He didn't even need me to walk him in because the redirection was a success.. This is great news…

He’s making himself sick over this stupid State testing

As of 1:30 AM this morning, both Elliott and Emmett will be returning to school. I should say that they are healthy enough to return to school. Elliott shouldn't be a problem but I think Emmett's going to be. Why would I say that? He's already so nervous about going back that he's woken up and climbed into bed with us twice. Apparently, there was State testing last week and he missed it cause he was sick. These tests always make him sick to his stomach, even though he's the kid with the highest scores. In fact, the last test had him scoring the highest in the school. He's never done poorly on one but he puts so much pressure on himself, it literally makes him nauseous. Unfortunately, he doesn't…

Why the boys will NOT be in school tomorrow

The boys are in their own beds, at least for now. Bedtime didn't go so well tonight because both boys are starting to feel under the weather again and were not in a good mood. Emmett was especially argumentative and rather explosive. For now, they're both in bed but I'm not sure how long that's going to last. We did setup the humidifier in their room and hopefully, that will help with the cough. As long as they fall asleep and stay asleep, I should be able to sleep in my own bed tonight.. ☺ School is already off the menu for tomorrow because of the fevers.... Hopefully, the boys will be feeling better tomorrow and can return to school on Tuesday.

Sh!t: It’s just turned into a three day weekend

Like and idiot tempting fate, I took Emmett's temperature. Now he's running a fever of 102.1°F and is unbelievably grouchy. I'm being forced to accept that what was a traditional two day weekend, has morphed into a three day weekend at the very least. I'm not gonna lie here, I'm a bit stressed out because I wasn't able to really relax at all this weekend, cause I've been dealing with sick kids. I haven't even been able to sleep in my own bed.. 🙁 Part of me is debating on giving Gavin his IVIG infusion tonight. That would be a day early but the last thing we need is for him to get sick as well.

Sh!t: It’s just turned into a three day weekend

Like and idiot tempting fate, I took Emmett's temperature. Now he's running a fever of 102.1°F and is unbelievably grouchy. I'm being forced to accept that what was a traditional two day weekend, has morphed into a three day weekend at the very least. I'm not gonna lie here, I'm a bit stressed out because I wasn't able to really relax at all this weekend, cause I've been dealing with sick kids. Guess how many sick kids I have this afternoon

The boys have arrived home this afternoon and Emmett came back with more than what we sent him with, a cough... 🙁 Outside of what he describes as a painful cough, he's in good spirits, as is Elliott. Unfortunately, the reality is such that they will feel better touring the day but absolutely shitty at night and in the morning. Then of course, there's the fighting. Elliott and Emmett are already fighting. I'm going to have to make them rest today because we want to try and keep them from getting any worse. What's in the agenda for today? Lots of rest, hydration and driving Daddy crazy..

Being a Dad / Elliott / Emmett John / My thoughts

I think I’ve earned an Okay-ish Dad award after today :)

It's a little after midnight and poor Elliott is absolutely miserable. He's got a ton of post nasal stuff going on and he doesn't do well with that. He's actually been quite close to puking and we all know how I feel about that.. 😁 He tried sleeping in his bed and then ours but couldn't manage to fall asleep. The best option for him is to sleep on the love seat, where he can comfortably sit up and fall asleep. This helps with the drainage and that puts him in a better place to get some sleep. While I'm happy to camp out with Elliott in the living room, especially if it's providing him comfort, I'm less enthusiastic because I love my new mattress. In the past, the couch…
