Bad News

I'm going to start with the most important thing first and that's Emmett. Apparently, Emmett was climbing on a metal folding chair that Lizze sits on when she's reading to them at night.  While he was climbing, he slipped and smashed his mouth into the metal frame of the chair.  This resulted in him chipping his front tooth. Of course, this is an adult tooth. It doesn't appear to be that bad of a chip but we will call the dentist in the morning, get him and Elliott in for their checkup and whatever Emmett needs.  He's not in any pain and I think the dentist will just sorta grind it down a little bit and leave it. It could have been much, much worse and I'm very grateful it…

I have good news and bad news tonight

Today has been one of those days were it's truly been a mix bag. We've been blessed with some really positive events today. At the same time, there's some bad news as well. I think that's how life sorta balances everything out.  In fairness though, life has a pretty shitty track record for balancing things out for us, and a lot of other families.  I want to begin with the good news because it's a pretty big deal.  I had been talking about how things being tight this month and how we are adjusting to a significantly reduced grocery budget. This has had me really stressed out and scrambling to figure out our options. Last night, or rather very early this morning, my new advertising deal came through. I hadn't…

Today’s Victory: He ate it

I'm pulling the trigger on this one a bit early but it's totally worth it.  In my last entry, I was talking about how Emmett would it longer eat corn dogs, one of the last goto foods he will still eat. I bought a big box while shopping because we are on a very meager budget this month and it's something Emmett always eats.  Unfortunately, the first couple of corn dogs he tried, tasted funny.  Generally speaking, if something tastes funny once, in Emmett's mind, it will never taste right again.  That being said, he wanted to try corn dogs for lunch today and while I didn't want to waste food again, if he wanted to try, I was all for it.  At first he ate one and then he…

He won’t even eat corn dogs anymore

The continuing saga of Emmett no longer eating the things he historically has, keeps getting worse. In this latest chapter, he no longer eats his most favorite food of all time.  There have been two goto foods that Emmett has always been able to eat, should all else fail. One is Little Caesars pizza, and second is corn dogs.  Little Caesars pizza has become sorta hit or miss lately but he will still eat it warm. Unfortunately, corn dogs are no longer an option. We went through several the other day and none tasted right.  Emmett's become very difficult to feed because nothing he eats tastes right to him anymore. He only regularly ate a handful of different foods and so losing anything is a major issue.  It's really frustrating…

Feeding Emmett is getting more challenging

I wanted to share a quick example of why it's so hard to keep Emmett, my youngest with Autism, fed.  Below you will see a picture of a piece of pizza that Emmett wanted to eat this morning. After heating it up however, he began to panic and ultimately decided that he couldn't eat it because it was missing some cheese at the very tip of the triangular slice.  There is absolutely no way to work through this with him.  I'm so frustrated because he's not eating much of anything, as a result of these sensory issues. I don't have the budget left to survive this right now, but Emmett needs to eat.  It's becoming increasingly more difficult to help him find something he's capable of eating.  Can anyone else…

You won’t believe what the worst part of the eye appointment was for my son with #Autism

It's been such a long day and I'm sure you're all surprised to hear that I'm exhausted. I feel like I've been on the go for most of the day and spent all my remaining energy along the way. 😁  For this entry, I'm going to focus on Emmett's eye appointment. The rest can wait until later on.  The long and short of it is, Emmett's appoint went well. Emmett did a great job, especially considering how long we were at Akron Children's Hospital today. Emmett did great with the eye drops that dilated his eyes, and great with all the lights shone in his eyes during the exam.  All the things one would think he would struggle with, he did great.  That being said, there was one area he…

Here’s why it’s a short day at school today

Emmett has an eye appointment this afternoon and I wouldnt be surprised if he needs a much stronger prescription. Even with his glasses, he has a hard time seeing things.  I'm hoping everything checks out okay but he's going to at least need new glasses.  Lizze is going to stay home with Elliott and Gavin, so we don't have to drag them to Akron Children's and back. Emmett and I will go to the appointment and get to hang out for a bit.  While I'm there, I will schedule Gavin's appointment and get his seem ASAP as well.
