A quick update because it’s been a few days

It's been a couple days since I've really written anything because I've been recovering from surgery since last Friday. I'm doing pretty good and haven't experienced much, if any major levels of pain or discomfort. That's a good thing and I'm incredibly grateful. While pain hasn't really been an issue, generally speaking, I feel rundown. I think I'll resume walking on Monday morning and try eating more regular foods later this week. It's been a lot of soup, yogurt and things like that. The boys are doing pretty good, although I wish I were in a better position to take advantage of Spring Break. I would have loved to take them hiking or something fun like that. Gavin is doing okay as well. We're not seeing any changes as he's…

A quick update 01/21/2019

It's been a very long, four day weekend. For the most part, we've been trapped in the house due to the weather. The kids were able to get outside a few times and play in the snow for a little while. Outside of those brief excursions, we've been cooped up and people are getting antsy. Unfortunately, there's not much to do at the moment and trying to get anyone to agree to do anything together has proven difficult. Today would be a perfect movie marathon day but no one wants to watch a movie. We could play board games but no one wants to do that either. Everyone is on edge because as with any long weekend, routines get disrupted. It's not that they don't enjoy being home or that…

Here’s a MASSIVE update from just the last 24 hours

The last 24 hours have been quite challenging and I'm going to explain why over the next few pages. Last night, Lizze and I did end up seeing a movie. It was awesome to get out for a little while. Unfortunately, Lizze wasn't feeling well after the show, so we cut the night short. No sooner did we get home than I got a call from Elliott saying that while they were visiting family, Emmett got bit by a dog that was there. Elliott was freaking out, Emmett was freaking out and I was trying to piece together what happened. Lizze's mom was trying to explain but Elliott wasn't making it easy. Long story short, I was pissed the fuck off about the dog. It's family, which complicates things. m…

3 interesting updates

This is just a quick, general update because I'm stretched kinda thin at the moment. We'll begin with the the forth of July. Rarely does a year go by where we aren't having to call the police because some idiot is lighting off illegal fireworks next to our house. This year was no exception. Although, we didn't have need to call the police until almost midnight this time. Look, we celebrate the forth of July and I love our country too. What I cannot accept is when people don't care how their actions impact their neighbors. Random people were setting off fireworks on our street throughout the day. As long as what they are doing doesn't hit our house, we usually don't care. The boys struggle with the noise but…

An Important Update: Anxiety, Depression and Respite

There's a few things I need to catch you up on. For starters, Emmett made it to school this morning however, he came home sick about lunchtime. I understand there's a stomach bug going around the school but I'm not sure he's actually sick. I totally believe his stomach hurts but I suspect that something might be bothering him and he's just unable to articulate it. It's so easy to forget that Emmett is significantly emotionally delayed because he's so stinking smart. Part of that delay involves expressive language, of which he greatly struggles with. He's doing a bit better since coming home from school. We have therapy tonight and we'll focus on Emmett. Maybe even figure out what's bothering him. Gavin's having a better day today. I'm really glad…

A super quick and important update

I'm keeping this short and sweet cause we're getting ready to head out the door again. Both the boys had good days at school. They came home in a good mood and are feeling good about going back tomorrow. ☺ If I could pick only one thing to go right today, this would have been it. I'm so relieved that everything went well.. ☺ Many of you will recognize the significance of surviving a significant change to your ASD kid's routine. It's even more amazing when they not only survive it but totally own it. I'm proud of my little minions.... ☺

Here’s an important, decent size Gavin update

I've made some pretty significant progress in regards to figuring out all the Gavin related things I set out to find the answer to this afternoon. There are still a few things I'm waiting on return calls for. I'll start with what I learned today. I was able to speak with the Cleveland Clinic about Gavin's EEG from last week. The reason we hadn't heard back is because his doctor is out of town until later in the month. They were able to have another neurologist look at the results and I'm pleased to say that Gavin didn't have any seizures during the 23 minute test. I'm not sure how much better I feel because it was only 23 minutes but at least it went well. While he didn't have…

Here’s an update

I wanted to take a few minutes and deliver a general update on my personal wellbeing. There's two things that are going on and I'm seeing my doctor in the morning for both. First and foremost, I'm meeting with my doctor to discuss withdrawaling from Paxil and Wellbutrin. I want to do so in a slow deliberate manner in order to give my body time to adjust. Secondly, I need her to look at my back. This is gross but I mentioned last week that the cyst on my back had burst, which is normal. I've never dealt with anything like that before so it had me pretty freaked out. Lizze has done an amazing job of helping me care for it. I can't reach the middle of my back…
