Does this mean we’re famous? LOL

I wanted to share this because it was really cool and Emmett is super excited. As I've shared previously, I've been using the Nokia Thermo Smart Thermometer to keep track of Emmett fevers. (See How the Thermo Smart Thermometer made our lives easier). We absolutely love this thing and I wrote a very honest review and Emmett was a big part of it. We shared the experience we've had using this device and how it's made tracking a very complicated fever disorder much easier and more efficient. Nokia was very interested in our experience in particular, due to Emmett's fever disorder. Most people won't use something like this very often and we need to use it several times a day, every day. Anyway, Emmett and I were featured on Nokia's blog this week.…

Sweet picture from our July 5th adventures

I know these are a couple of days late but I wanted to share them anyway. On July 5th, one of my focuses was wearing my kids out, by keeping them busy all day long. It was dark from a perfect day but while Lizze was in class, I took the boys to the indoor playground and let them play for awhile. They ended up joining in a game of tag with the other kids that were there. It felt so nice to see them having fun with other kids in a playground. After Lizze arrived home from class, we went to the Garden Center as a family. The boys went exploring, and Gavin found several painted rocks, that he promptly re-hid somewhere in the giant garden, for others to…

Why I’m so proud of my wife

Lizze finished her first round of classes this week and immediately began the second round. Rather than going to class four days a week, she's down to two days a week. This is nice for a couple of reasons. First of all, it's easier on her. These classes are very intensive and both physically and emotionally depleting. They serve a very real purpose but it called intensive outpatient therapy for a reason. The second reason it's nice that she's down to twice a week is that we get to have her home more often. I know these classes are really important for her overall emotional health, but we miss her when she's gone. She typically comes home exhausted and in need of a break, which sorta takes her away from us again.…

One of my kids just arrived home with new shoes

Mr. Emmett spent a large part of this morning with his grandparents. They wanted to undertake the difficult task of finding Emmett shoes he will wear. Emmett just arrived home a few minutes ago and with him, is a pair of shoes he's pretty excited about. I'm super grateful for the help and I'm glad Emmett feels good about these shoes. That being said, I'm not going to hold my breath because I've been around this block a few too many times. I'm certainly not trying to rain on anyone's parade but I will remain cautiously optimistic.

When my kids have a great day at school

The boys had a great day at school today. That's not a huge surprise, but I never assume anything. I appreciate this ending to the week because we are heading into four day weekend and it's always a good thing to start those out on the right foot. Apparently, tomorrow is a teacher in-service day and then, of course; Monday is MLK Day. I'm super proud of the boys for giving the week their all and walking away with a smile. We don't have any plans for this weekend, but the boys are going to spend the night with their grandparents tomorrow night. That means we get a break. :-)

It’s easy to underestimate the impact a meltdown can have on a parent

This morning took so much out of me that for the first time in awhile, I crashed after dropping the boys off at school. I did get some writing done prior but I was just no longer able to function and needed sleep. I feel much better now, although I'm still tired. It's pretty easy to underestimate how much a morning full of meltdowns can impact a parent. The amount of emotional and physical energy expended is immeasurable. On the positive side of things, once Emmett works through the sensory issues in the morning, he seems to recover much faster than I do and has a good day at school. Truthfully, if given the choice, this is how I would want it to go. Experiencing a sensory issue like Emmett…
