I’ll admit it, I’m smitten

I've never been a little dog person because I didn't see the point. I've always had big dogs like Maggie, our 70 lbs English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. We we adopted Ruby last week, the last thing I expected was to become totally smitten. Ruby weighs a bit under 5 lbs and is really tiny. Despite her size, she's got an enormous personality and fits in perfectly with the rest of our family. ☺ Anyway, I said above that I hadn't expected to become smitten with her because I'm not a big fan of tiny dogs. Ruby had other plans because she's latched on to me and literally follows me everywhere I go. When I'm writing, she curls up on my lap and falls asleep. Sometimes she climbs up and sleeps…

We had two close calls with Gavin’s meds this week

We've had two pretty significant issues this week, in regards to Gavin's Clozapine and IVIG infusions. I mentioned previously that there was a issue with Gavin's Clozapine refill and that governing body that okays Gavin's refills has decided to make his start over. That means bloodwork every Monday and only seven days worth of pills at a time. Anyway, I had called the pharmacy on Tuesday morning to remind them to pull his lab results because he needed his refill before Wednesday. They assured me that it would be done and delivered that afternoon. Unfortunately, they never showed up and I had to chase them done and make sure it was refilled immediately. They finally refilled it but because it took them so long, they weren't able to deliver it…

aka…His Schizophrenic hallucinations

It's been a sorta blah kinda day here. Nothing too exciting happened. Elliott and Emmett have spent most of the day together with little or no fighting. Gavin's spent most of it isolated in his room. He was probably on some missions with his visibly challenged team of super best friends (aka his Schizophrenic hallucinations). Lizze is still struggling as a result of the weather and is moving pretty slow again today. As far as I go, I'm feeling good physically and not too bad emotionally. I do wish the weather was warmer and we could do something outside besides get frostbite.

Our 1st snow day of 2018

We are enjoying our first snowday of 2018. It's bitterly cold outside but I know many others have it worse right now. We're staying warm in the house and have no plans for today other than doing things around the house. We're supposed to get a break in the weather this weekend. For now, my goal is to stay as active inside the house as possible. I want to keep the kids occupied and try my best to keep things as peaceful as possible.

It’s so important to challenge him with things like this

Gavin's been spending too much time playing games on his tablet. Right now he's playing a game that talks about the 7 wonders of the world and Gavin wanted to learn more about them in real life. I suggested that he research one of them each day and write a brief essay about it. I told him that I really wanted to learn about them and he could teach me all about them when he's done researching. He took that and ran with it. Below you will find his essay from today. I'm not quite sure what are his words vs what he copied from the internet. Gavin is very limited cognitively and things like this aren't easy for him. It's really important to encourage him to try anyway because…

It’s super nice to have advanced notice

The boys had a good day at school today. They are super excited to know in advance that they will have a snow day tomorrow. As a parent, it's super nice to know it's going to be a snow day, this far in advance as well. 😀 This will make for a less stressful evening and a much more pleasant morning also. The boys have been playing together since they got home and have even been quiet enough to allow Lizze to finish her nap. She's been in a great deal of pain this week and it's taken a lot out of her. I'm still feeling pretty good and I don't see anything changing that today. 😀

Being a parent can be a weird experience

School was canceled for tomorrow, already. Looks like it's going to be a long weekend and I'm honestly okay with that. I've always found myself in a quandary when it comes to the kids and school. I absolutely love having them home and would prefer them home by default. At the same time, they can and often do drive me crazy. It's a weird place to be in but being a parent can be a weird experience as well. ☺

It’s been a hectic morning

Turns out the boys have school today. I'm not sure why because everyone North and South of us are canceled, some for the rest of the week. It's actually colder here than the places that canceled as well. Weird.... Anyway, it's been a super fun morning and by super fun, I'm mean hectic. We discovered that our dryer is broken. The school clothes we put in the dryer last night were still wet this morning. The drum isn't spinning. I think it's just a belt and that's pretty easy to replace but it will still be down for a couple of days. As soon as I tear it apparent and confirm my suspicion, I'll have to order the part from Amazon. I'm pretty sure that's what I had to do…
